Hi everyone, I’m 30yrs old pregnant with first baby, currently 5 weeks and feeling so fatigue and sickness feeling 24/7. I work at a hair salon so I’m on my feet all day and really struggling. Especially in the mornings it’s taking me ages to get ready for work because I feel so awful and feeling sorry for myself.

I don’t know what to do for the best. I’ve already phoned in sick twice :(

Has anyone got any advice. Would be much appreciated

Leanne

Its tricky, I felt the same for about 5/6 weeks, had to carry a plastic bad round with me everywhere cos I felt like I was going to be sick, I just had to keep going, it was hard but I knew it wouldn't be forever. I found that ice lollies helped with the nausea so just ate loads of those and rested and slept whenever I could. It is rubbish feeling like that but it will pass, hopefully soon.

Oh my, it really is bad, usn't it? I didn't work during the first trimester and I don't think I could have done without calling in sick a few times. My nausea slowly got better after 9 weeks and was mostly gone by 14 weeks. I felt that it was a bit more doable if I was well rested and kept snacking carbs throughout the day. Try to nap when you can. I hope it will get better soon.

Sorry to hear ur feeling like that, it's not pleasant is it... i found eating crackers, sour things and as someone mentioned ice lollies helpful. I also drank sparkling water to help ease of nausea. It should pass.. have you told work ure pregnant? My work did a risk assessment last week and told me i could have frequent breaks. Its a good idea to tell them if u havent already.. because if ure really sick u can mayb take time off aswel. hope u feel better soon.. mayb when u get into ur 2nd tri?

Pregnancy sickness support has done useful stuff. They are also on FB.

Ice lollies (but only lemon or lime) helped me, but I still ended up dehydrated in hospital.Your GP can prescribe various anti nausea drugs, which had a greater or lesser effect on me. As for time off, pregnancy related sick leave must be recorded separately and cannot be used against you - but you do need to let your employee know.
