I am a tiny 4ft 10 mum to be and my growth scan indicated 72nd percentile - I’m really shocked. Is this a big baby?!

Each of the different measurements have their own percentile - so was it the estimated fetal weight that is on the 72nd?
They are an estimate only really and can be way off the actual birth weight of the baby so I wouldn't worry too much
Also they can chance percentiles pretty regularly especially if you get a different sonographer each time x

My fundal measurements were on the 10th percentile but she was born on the 60th percentile. The growth charts are personal based on your size and other bits. I am 6ft 2 so even though she was on the 60th percentile she was only 6lb13 born at 38+6, she is tracking just under the 25th percentile for growth.

I'd actually ignore any growth/weight estimates... Loads of times it's wrong!
And remember as it's percentiles,it's a bell curve, and there has to be a heaviest baby and a lightest.

All that matters is that they track along whatever percentile they are on (with a few wobbles here and there)

Op don’t panic. My youngest was supposed to be huge (going off the scans, I had to have extra right the way through) he was a tiny 6lbs when he was born, the smallest of all of them.
My first was just under 8lb (so quite average) but very quickly grew length and weight to the 91st percentile and has stayed their for height ever since (weight dropped to 75th once he became mobile). He’s a tall and skinny 15 yo now!
Following his birth the health visitor told me that genetically “larger” babies hold off reaching full potential till their out of the womb if their mother is small. I’m 5ft 3.

My fundal measurements were on the 90th centile. Baby was born between the 2nd and 9th centile at just 5lb12oz. I'd had a couple of extra scans and no one had mentioned how tiny baby was. I'd take the measurements with a pinch of salt.

I’m 4’11’’ and I had to have growth scans as my bump (fundal height) measurements were off the charts. Growth scans showed babies around the 75th but were both actually just under the 50th. My 2nd my fundal height couldn’t be plotted at 36 weeks I was so huge (48cm 😂) baby arrived at 39 weeks at 7lb 5oz I wouldn’t worry too much it’s much more about growth trend following the curve and if growth speeds up or slows. With my first I had growth scans the day before I went into labour and the estimated weight was 1.5lbs out.

Disappointedkoala · 08/12/2020 21:19

1st was between 91st-97th for the various measurements
2nd was 80-90th
Fundal measurements were right at the top (or over) for both of them the whole way through. Growth scans were accurate for me in both pregnancies.

I'm 5'3 but with tall OH so always expected to have biggish babies.

mrsmmajeika · 09/12/2020 08:38

I'm 5ft2 and my baby was born on the 99.9th (over 11lb) . I was not sent for any growth scans throughout but midwives "predicted" a 9lb baby according to my chart. Needless to say if we (hopefully) have another baby I would not trust anyone's predictions or even growth scans as I have heard they are not accurate either!

Sls668 · 09/12/2020 09:30

@Sixpencefaux your measurements are almost identical to mine (my baby was 70th rather than 72nd). She was born at 40+11 and was 8lb 9oz if that’s any help! She’s 4 weeks old now and I have no idea how she ever fit inside me!

Sixpencefaux · 09/12/2020 11:42

@ivfbeenbusy i think it was the average of everything that was 72nd.

DT2 was 0.4th for one and below the chart for the other at birth - can’t remember which way round. His weight was lower at birth than the estimated weight at 32 week scan. I wouldn’t expect accuracy from a scan predicted weight and even less so from fundal height!

Superscientist · 09/12/2020 16:27

Just realised I made a bad typo on my height.... I'm 5ft2. Not 6ft2

Chanel05 · 09/12/2020 16:35

My dd was 50th centile Born at 40+2 7.11.

OnNaturesCourse · 09/12/2020 21:59

I'm 5"10 and all throughout my 1st pregnancy baby was marked as "small" but they never gave me weights or percentiles. I had to get extra growth scans too. Baby arrived 2 weeks early weighing a healthy 7lb.

I recall baby being on the 55th percentile from a month or so old until she hit about 4 months and she just took off. She's been on the 99th percentile ever since.

Grumpy19 · 09/12/2020 22:13

I am 4ft 10 and my fundal is over 97%!! I am also having growth scans which put him just over 50th but I'm struggling not to panic as DC2 got stuck with shoulder dystocia so I've got a consultant appointment at 36 weeks! 😬
