Big baby...gestational diabetes??

Hi there I've just had a growth scan...as I was socially smoking at the time of conception...but things seem to have gone the other way and the baby is in the 99th percentile and weights 4.5lbs at 31 weeks...I've been told to get the midwife to test for gestational diabetes at the next appointment and im suddenly racked with guilt for every chocolate croissant or bowl of white pasta I've eaten over the past months..

I don't think im unhealthy...I walk an hour a day and have a fairly balanced diet def lots of veg and no sugary drinks. I have been having more toast (wholemeal) than I normally would but I thought going low carb was a bad idea?! I think I have been indulging in a few sweet treats but I thought pregnant women were allowed to eat cake!
I was hoping other people might be able to share their experiences...I just don't want to have put the baby in any danger...I'm not fussed about a more painful birth as long as the baby is ok! (May regret saying this !!)
also are rhe measurements accurate? And my last midwife appt they did a urine test - would it have been flagged up then?
Thanks so much for any wise.words.

I'm overweight so I had several GD tests. I also had additional growth scans. I'm the tall end of average height and DH is 6ft so not massively tall IMO.
No GD, test results came back the same day as the tests. Every time.
Baby measured big every time I went for a growth scan and so they'd send me for another GD test.
The only reason they offered to induce me early was because I had reduced movements but by that point I'd settled on a C-section anyway and I had that granted for 39 weeks exactly.
DS was born weighing 10lbs 10oz. Because he was big they then checked his blood sugars which again were fine.
Some of us just make big babies.

Thanks so much for sharing and I bet big babies are much less scary to handle than small! I called the hospital for the test results but they said they would only let me know if there was a problem...I'm a bit annoyed that they wouldn't just check to save me waiting and worrying for a phone call which (hopefully) might never come. I think ill call again tomorrow. Don't want to be a pain in the neck but also know that not worrying will benefit me and my pregnancy! Lets see!

I've had 2 babies - 1st one was 10lbs, the second was 10lb 5oz. I had the GD test but I was fine. I just grow big babies.

I'm 5'6" and a healthy weight, usually a size 12.

During a growth scan at 30 weeks I was told my second baby measured small..... she came out at 10lb 5, so make of that as you wish.

2nd birth was a breeze and I practically sneezed her out in 2 pushes ( I highly recommend hypno birthing - it's AMAZING).

Thanks for the comments! I got the results and don't have GD which makes me feel relieved but I guess now just trying not to worry about a big baby birth! Thanks everyone :-)

The problem is so many ladies think they do not have Gestational Diabetes when they do! Please have a read of my petition, this will explain a few things.
