Baby clothes..?! Long sleeves no legs?

FTM here having a freak out about the clothes I have...
So I understand that newborns wear a vest with a baby grow over the top.
What would I use these for?! Wouldn’t baby get too hot with this any baby grow or to cold with just this?
Sorry if this is a stupid question! 😂 x

Under a sleep suit if they’re in a baby sleeping bag without sleeves, to give them a bit more arm warmth. Or with leggings or joggers for the day, with a jumper or cardigan on top.

HappyPotato · 07/12/2020 14:31

It depends on the temperature? If it's cold I'd put a long sleeve under a babygrow, or I use them as tops basically with a pair of trousers and jumper

WalkingMeAway · 07/12/2020 14:31

Baby can wear it as a top, with trousers/leggings/skirt and a cardigan.
Underneath dungarees.
Underneath short sleeve top when it’s still a little cool

leafcar · 07/12/2020 14:32

This is a long sleeved body suit, I used them under sleepsuits to keep DS warm in the colder months. I used the short sleeve ones most of the time underneath sleepsuits or pretty much any other outfit he wears Grin

@BeaufortScale - thanks very much, I knew there would be some sort of logical explanation!

Long-sleeved vests and trousers are pretty much all DS has ever worn - they are very useful for chillier days in the house & means less faffing with cardigans. I also put them under a babygro at night if it was very cold, or just in a long-sleeved vest with the sleeping bag.

momtoboys · 07/12/2020 14:33

I LOVED these for my boys. They were all born in the colder weather so I used them under everything. Our doc always said to dress the babies in one more layer than you would wear and that should keep them appropriately warm. These were frequently my second layer.

Sunshine1235 · 07/12/2020 14:34

This time of year I put them under a normal sleepsuit to keep them extra snug just like a vest but with long sleeves. Or wear with tights/trousers with feet and a little cardigan or jumper if it’s cold

MCR2021 · 07/12/2020 14:34

So for my hospital bag as they tend to be pretty warm I’m thinking vests and baby grows and not the long sleeved Ones?

I use these as long sleeved vests in winter. So my one year old wears one of these, a long sleeved top, and trousers. Maybe with a jumper on top too if it’s cold in the house. As the seasons change then he might wear one of the bodysuits as a top in itself or as pjs in a sleeping bag.

MonaLisaPiles · 07/12/2020 14:37

They are very handy for keeping little baby tights up popper them on over the tights not under
In the cold weather unless your house is like an oven I would always put a long sleeved body under a sleep suit during the night

Oh and they are designed so that you can pull them down over their little shoulders rather than over their heads should they have an explosive poo or be sick in them. Handy hint Grin

SRK16 · 07/12/2020 14:37

Sorry just saw all the updates! Bring long sleeved vest for the journey home.

BeaufortScale · 07/12/2020 14:38

I wouldn’t take them to hospital, it’s so warm, and coming home you can always just put a blanket over the car seat.

PolytheneHam · 07/12/2020 15:06

We use them under a sleepsuit or pyjamas at night when it's cold. They're also great for under dungarees!

Luckyelephant1 · 07/12/2020 15:15

This is all really useful stuff for me too.
What I've never really understood is that I often see photos of babies indoors layered up in cute, weather appropriate outfits, but often their feet are always bare? Is this simply because socks are a nightmare to keep on 😂? I know for me, no matter how layered up I am, if my feet are cold then I will never be warm. Is this not the same for babies?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/12/2020 15:17

Sleepsuits and short sleeved bodysuits underneath are ideal for hospital and at home.

Long sleeved bodysuits are good either under dungarees as a top, layered under a short sleeve t-shirt, under sleepsuits when the nights are really cold. I also had a few pairs of footed trousers from H&M so a long sleeved bodysuits worked perfectly with them.

I then added cardigans for warmth as needed.

It’s just for cuteness value in the photos.

Baby socks don’t stay on very well, so footed trousers / sleep suits or tights are the way to go. You can buy special sock-keeper-onners but they look a bit fiddly and tight to me.

Maybe pack one or two in the hospital bag. I unfortunately had to stay 2 nights and my bay had a window with blown seals so cold air all day and night - in mid December.
AegonT · 07/12/2020 20:30

I used those with dungarees or trousers as a long-sleeved T-shirt.

this confused me too I had to ask my friend who's just had a baby I felt so stupid 😂😂
