Help! Preggers walker outgrowing her precious hiking trousers

The dreaded is happening and I’ve just realised how impossibly rare/expensive technical winter maternity hiking trousers are 🙄 (water resistant, wicking, great pockets, stretchy comfy, warm...)

So, my question is, do you know if those bump bands you can get mean that I could just wear my beloved trousers with the zips undone and use the band to disguise/hold them up?

Its that or braces! 😁 please help!

I was thinking of some kind of added panel and I knew someone would have invented it...

(There might be better ones out there)

I haven't done any proper hillwalking since 24weeks. At that point I was wearing running type long leggings. But was September so much warmer. I reckon you can wear them with zip undone, and just wear a long top over them. Braces might be a handy back up for extra security though!

@SoupDragon (cool name) and thank you for the recommendation! I’m going to look closer into this!

@Skyla01, really good point on the long top, luckily a lot of maternity tops are quite long. What made you stop hill walking after 24 weeks? Must admit my back is giving me jip around the 4 mile mark these days and I’m only 17 weeks with a pretty small bump, partly why I’m not too keen to invest in a maternity pair of walking trousers.

I just wear maternity leggings now from love leggings. They’re nice and thick and have lots of stretch in them. 32 weeks and still going on a walk every Sunday for a few miles. Tend to go on flatter walks now though

@HotDiggidy2017 around 24 weeks were my last munros (I'm in Scotland), plus I've done all the munros near(ish) my home so anything else would require nights away. But with all the travel restrictions etc I decided to leave it. Also as my weight went up found my legs getting very tired! Still doing lots of short walks. I had a bad back a few weeks ago, it's ok now but that's further put me off doing anything too strenuous.

I personally wouldn't bother with maternity trousers for walking. You don't know when you might not feel up to it (e.g. back pain like you've mentioned). Plus it's not the best season for it anyway. I'll be looking forward to getting back in to it in a while... maybe next summer!
