Second baby induction

I'm being induced tomorrow bang on 36 weeks, due to reduced growth, abnormal umbilical Pi measurements, and reduced movements. Absolutely bricking it!

I was induced with my first for similar reasons with growth and reduced movements.
I had such a long labour with him, admitted on the weds, pessary after pessary, eventually got to 3cm by Friday night and taken to break wagers at 10 am, he wasn't born until 1.30 Sunday morning!
Exhausting!

Has anyone has induction second time round and it's been much quicker?
Completely expecting to be in for days trying to get me started.
Going to be Missing DS so bad being in the hospital that long for induction to work, then potentially days after with a 36 weeker.

Any stories of second inductions?

My first induction (DC1) took ages. Admitted on the Saturday and he arrived by EMCS on the Tuesday.
DC 3 was also an induction (I was frightened as VBACS and inductions don't usually go well together but my BP had shot up!)
I had my waters broken at about 3pm. Had a pessary and low level drip. DD was born at 1am.

Good luck for tomorrow xx

I was induced with both of mine, though later on than you are - DS1 was at 42 weeks and DS2 at 39+1 (39+2 when he actually arrived).

With DS2, because it was a bit earlier in pregnancy, I took a while longer to actually go into labour and there was a bit of faff when I hyperstimulated from the gel and they had to slow things down again. But once I got going after my waters were broken, things happened quicker. I went on the drip but was only on it for about 2 hours before I was fully dilated and then he was born within about 4 contractions (pushing out DS1 had taken over an hour).

Hi again - I commented on your other thread - just wanted to say great that you have this plan :) have they talked to you about using a balloon instead of pessaries? That may make things a little quicker, would definitely be worth asking about if they haven’t mentioned it. I think you can expect labour to be quicker than last time, from the point of breaking waters onward, but getting the cervix ready may still take a while as it is less likely to be getting ready by itself at 36 weeks. Hope all goes really well for you.

I’ve just had my second induction, this week after an awful first induction. I really didn’t want to be induced this time but I had no choice in the end due to health reasons.
It was absolutely fine, a much better experience and much quicker. If it was a guarantee it was like that for a 3rd, I would do it again.

I have hideous long labours too.
I have 4 children and was induced with 2 and had my waters broken with my 4th to speed things up. Gonna give you the lowdown on my experiences.

With our first, had to be induced at 40 weeks plus. A good old two days labour. Pessaries were useless. Was given I think 2 or 3, they're pointless. Finally after 36 hours of being in hospital and being monitored things started happening. It was a total of 48 hours labour from the first pessary to delivering but roughly 14 hours established labour.

Second child, my waters went after husband and I did the business at 37 weeks. Went to hospital but nothing was happening. Was kept in to be examined and monitored because of water loss. They said they would start inducing me the next day. They gave me pessaries to speed things up. Pessaries are useless. Again, had 2 or 3. So they decided to put me on the drip. Which is by the way, the worst thing in the world. It makes you have contractions non stop back to back and it's just awful. I was literally begging and crying for the epidural. But there was no anaesthetist available to do it. So I was just left in agony. I was on the drip for 6 hours and it did speed things up. But I would never have it again I think I have a low pain threshold as I couldn't manage it about five. They turn it up a point every half an hour to increase the medicine going into your blood stream to sored up labour. Trust me its horrific. That was 48 hours as well from the moment my waters went at the house until the moment I gave birth. Baby was born small at 5lb4 but healthy.

Third baby, was born at 39 weeks on the dot. Waters went in the middle of the night. Theres a theme happening here. I always go in the middle of the night. Or at midnight. Dropped the other 2 off at my aunts, got to the hospital and husband and I were told to go back home as I wasnt dilated enough. Went home and tried to rest and also do exercise and walking, clean the house. Anything to basically speed things up. Would have had sex to get the party started but midwife advised against it as my waters had broken. Finally that night couldn't take anymore got to hospital, was only 3cm and just said can I stay please. Got given pethidine which helped until 7cm. Then straight into the birthing pool which I highly recommend. That was a total of 36 hours labour but my easiest one. The pool was a dream.

Fourth baby born 2018, usual thing happened. Contractions went at night. In the middle of the night. Went to hospital. Again, hubby and I told to go home as was only 2cm
Spent the day at the house with my husband watching movies and walking around and going up and down the stairs etc. Nothing was working. Then at 7PM ish we decided to go collect the kids from our aunts as we had dropped them earlier. But on the way there I was having lots of contractions so decided to go hospital instead. I was 4cm so they kept me in. Wanted water birth, but second midwife who took over told me no. She had a bad back and wouldnt be able to assist me. I should have just asked for a new midwife but I was too polite and thought it would be rude for me to ask of that. That was 32 hours labour. Hahaha my quickest. The only thing that did speed things up actually was my first midwife took me out of the birthing pool to break my waters. I might insist they do that if they can when I arrive. I really, really cant do no more 2 labours. It's hard work so I definitely feel for you.

Currently pregnant with our 5th child. Would like things to happen naturally. Wouldn't want to go down the induction route as A, I cant handle the drip and B, pessaries are pointless. I'm 34 weeks now so really hoping that because it's my 5th, things will happen quicker and hoping i will also get the water birth.
I really reccomend it if you can.

Best of luck for your induction today , and a safe and happy, healthy baby and delivery.

PopsicleHustler · 05/12/2020 06:56

@Palmtree3 how were you induced with your first and second if you don't mind me asking?

Congratulations on your new baby

PopsicleHustler · 05/12/2020 07:00

That was meant to say , will ask them if they can break my waters when I arrive as I can't do no more 2 day labours. It's hard work.

happylittlechick · 05/12/2020 07:04

I was t induced with my first but I was with my second. They were able to break my waters which makes it much quicker. They might be able to do that for you? I would also request an epidural straight away. I had to wait hours for mine as no anaesthetist was available.

Bellbell1199 · 05/12/2020 10:48

Thank you ladies.
Fingers crossed its the same for Me.. Don't think I could cope with a long labour again!

Just got here, waiting to find out which induction method I can have as it's high risk induction with the reduced growth and poor doppler readings.
So Nervous, but so excited to see her little face!

@TenThousandSpoons0 thank you for the support, especially on my Last thread.
