Recommendations on moisturisers/stretch mark prevention

Just that really. I've heard stretch marks are genetic and there's no preventing them but my bump is starting to develop and I'd like to use a moisturiser or oil of some sort to reduce itching/soothe the skin/reduce the appearance of stretch marks etc. I see Boots do a Weleda oil which seems to have good reviews. I was looking at the Expert Midwife products but the reviews were "luxurious product, other cheaper products do the same thing". Just wondering if anyone has anything they find particular useful and can recommend. Thanks in advance

Hello, I used Palmers tummy butter with my children. I didn't get any stretch marks with my first but did with my second so don't really think you can prevent them. To be honest even though I do have them now, (I also have a caesarian scar), they don't bother me at all. They just remind me of been pregnant and make me smile remembering that special time 😊

Bio Oil is fab. I never had a single stretch mark from my pregnancies when I used it, but I do have a couple of stretch marks from when I was fat, so I’d say it works! I’ve also used it for scars and it worked wonders then too.

Genetics play a massive part but it never hurts to keep ur skin in good condition, drink plenty of water and moisturiser, I used palmers mainly as it smells lovely

I didn’t use anything in both pregnancies, and I don’t have any stretch marks at all. I therefore think genetics must be the strongest factor.

I would just get something that you like the smell and texture of, and enjoy the self care of a nightly bump massage! But don’t put pressure on yourself

I used baby oil gel every day in the shower. Never got a single one.

Neil's Yard Mother's Balm. My bump was huge with my first, I used this and didn't get a single stretch mark.

It is genetic but there is no harm in using anything you can get your hands on plus it makes you feel nice too.

Look after your feet as well, they have to work extra hard when you weigh more and get them up when you have a rest. My midwife told me this when I had my first and it was good advice.

I didn't use anything in any of my three pregnancies and haven't a single stretch mark. It's all down to genetics.

I used every lotion/oil/moisturiser under the sun and drank my body weight in water every day, it went so well until 33 weeks and now my stomach is streaked with them.

Weleda pregnancy oil is brilliant and Boots sometimes do offers. 4th pregnancy now, used it each time, no stretch marks despite 10lb babies and going 2 weeks overdue. BMI 20 so skin had to stretch lots.

They run in my family, but I managed to avoid them and that's the only thing I did differently. Sisters used Bio Oil and got loads of stretch marks. I wouldn't mind though! The oil is just lovely anyway.

I used every promised product under the sun and I was drinking 5 litres of water at that time, I was absolutely covered - I was so upset. My sister didn't get a single one.

Just use something you like the smell of!

I have to agree that it is probably genetic. I gave birth twice and have no stretch marks plus I was a lazy so and so and didn't apply any kind of oils or creams as my bump(s) got bigger. Two sisters had multiple pregnancies and neither of them had stretch marks either. No idea if my mother did as the subject never came up.
There are many expensive products on sale which state they prevent stretch marks but the manufacturers will know they are on to a good thing as thousands of young pregnant women will buy all these items as dread s.marks which I think are far less unnattractive than people think. Stick to basic oils and creams which I am sure will be just as effective as the fancy ones.
