Moving house alone - safe?

Probably overthinking this. I’m moving house on Wednesday to a first floor flat. I have a van and friends roped in at night to do the real heavy lifting like the actual furniture. But I have the day off work so I was hoping to get all the rest of the boxes and bags moved myself during the day. The boxes aren’t massively heavy, but there are a lot of them and I’ll be running up and down the stairs from the car. I’m not a particularly fit person. Is this safe to do? I’ll be 14 weeks pregnant when I move.

You should be fine if boxes aren't heavy but i would say don't overdo it and listen to your body. If at any point you are in pain or exhausted just stop and let your friends do it for you :)

I moved house on my own when I was 8 months pregnant it probably helped that I was nesting so couldn't wait for help in the evening and wanted it all to be done and clean and tidy. I felt it the day after but I was up and down car load after car load up and down ladders climbing on the kitchen counters putting up curtains. It's doable but you might need some rest the day after

@crazybutkind that’s good to know, thank you. I figured it’s probably better that I’m doing it now rather than any later in my pregnancy!

Personally I would pay the professionals to do it if you can get the money together. It will be a massive weight off your shoulders and your friends can help you unpack/clean/assemble furniture at other end. Stress is very bad for your body and moving is very stressful! Good luck

I moved house 2 weeks ago at week 15, for context we went from a 1 bed on the ground floor to a 2 bed on the first floor, same building not a huge amount of large items. On day 1 Partner and neighbour did the heavy items, I carried a few smaller items up but mainly put everything away as they brought it and the next day I singlehandedly deep cleaned the old flat.

Would say I slightly overdid it even though I did much less than I would if I wasn’t pregnant (and I’m in ok shape fitness wise). Both nights my hips and back were super sore and took a couple of days to recover.

Its good advise to listen to your body but honestly I find it nigh on impossible to do so until it’s too late in the day... you’re just so focused! If you can get any extra help then I really would, don’t underestimate the effect of your pregnancy on your stamina.

Good luck with the move!!

I just moved house also. My partner and family done all the heavy lifting and I done a the ‘small bits’ cleaning and painting ,lifting small boxes, unpacking. I was extremely sore for a few days after that I was nearly taking myself to the maternity a&e. went back to work as usual (after booking annual leave off to move) and half way through my shift I took some pains and lost my mucus plug/spotting. I’m aware it can regenerate but I was advised then that I had over done it and My body was warning me to slow down. I was put on bed rest until I was 24 weeks at least in case early labour started and bAby has better chance of receiving life saving care. 24 weeks now and all is ok but Still on bed rest. I would advise getting others to help do all the running up and down the stairs and lifting boxes. If u can. If not take loads of breaks and listen to ur body . At 14 weeks If something was to go wrong there isn’t much can be done to support baby compared to somebody over doing it at 8 months and needing intervention for baby to be born. Just my opinion. Good luck with the house move x

I’ve managed to rope in some help for moving the boxes during the day, so I’ll hopefully not be doing too much other than loading the car up and cleaning.
