32 weeksish and these have been getting increasingly hellish at night.

I had a bad episode 2 nights ago that literally had be shooting upright in bed and clenching my leg in pain, it was the worst cramp I've ever had.

My leg is still incredibly tender now 2 days later and I feel like I actually have a limp!

Anyone else getting this bloody awful things?

Hi OP, yes I get this a lot! Had it with my first pregnancy and now 24 weeks with my second and its cone back! It's a really horrible intense pain isn't it! One thing I've found that helps is as soon as you feel the leg cramp starting, get out of bed and stand up straight, it does tend to disappear more quickly that way!

Oh god, this is the worse thing about pregnancy. I suffer them a lot anyway because I play a lot of sports and get tight calves, but they have increased in pregnancy.
Like PP said, as soon as you feel it coming, jump straight out of bed and gently try put some weight on that leg and stretch it.
I limp around for a few days after and find that the more I keep moving the better it gets.
I’ve heard magnesium spray is supposed to help. I’ve been using it for years but never quite sure if it actually does anything. Maybe worth a shot.

Agree with both people above, as soon as you feel it start get out of bed. I don't know how it works but it instantly stops the cramp!

I agree with the get out of bed. As soon as I wake up with cramp, I do a random kick in the air to try and move my leg, stand straight up and walk up and down a few paces Smile

I’ve been getting these too, pretty much every night. As others have said, get straight out of bed and pace up and down a few times. That’s what eases mine but yep sometimes my leg is sore for maybe the morning afterwards.

I get restless legs normally, but when pregnant with DD2 I had terrible cramps. No amount of pacing or rubbing seemed to help, it was agony. It is often down to a magnesium and/or potassium deficiency. I prescribed myself a banana a day which did the trick. I stopped bothering after a while and the cramps returned, so started eating the bananas again and my stopped cramping.

I had these alot when pregnant, I used to jump out of bed in pain! they were worse when I had done a lot of walking that day or had been carrying my laptop to work ... good excuse to sit on my arse/wfh!

Low iron or magnesium can cause them or dehydration but pregnancy in general can cause them.
If the cramps are in your calf they can be relieved by pulling your toes as far towards your shins as possible. Doing some of these stretches before sleep may help prevent cramps too.
