Crib recommendations and advice

Hi everyone,

I'm currently expecting my first baby, due end of April 2021. My DH and I have been looking at various different cribs and bassinets to have in our bedroom ready for when we bring our wee one home. Trouble is our bedroom is quite small and I'm not sure where to put it! On my side of the bed is the main window and I wasn't sure if that would be too draughty for the baby and there's not enough space if I were to swap sides with my DH as he has our wardrobe his side. I thought I could perhaps put the crib at the foot of the bed but my DH is tall and his feet hang out of the bottom of the bed! Only other option we have is the wall opposite our bed but it would mean the crib would be next to the radiator.

Does anyone have any advice where would be best to put Babs? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for cribs etc that are either more compact or take up less floor space (like if they have legs that can slide under the bed)?

Thanks lovelies Smile

I was in your position 10 years ago. I was breastfeeding my dd so we had her in a moses basket, in a stand to the side of my bed for the first 6 weeks. Not ideal but it worked. We then got a small crib and mattress from argos. (I think it was called prague?? It looks like they dont do it anymore :( ) And it fit nicely next to me too.

As for draught. Do you find it draughty?

I used to always keep my house at 19°.

Is there anyway to move your room aroundm

Could you keep the window shut but the bedroom door open, and open a window in an adjacent room for ventilation? That way the baby is not in a direct draught, but you have some fresh air entering the room.
As you are due in April, it will very soon be warm enough to have the window open in your room anyway.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but definitely don’t have it next to the radiator. The baby could overheat really easily.

We have exactly the same problem. Have decided that DP and I will swap sides of the bed temporarily, and push the bed up against the wall/window, so the crib will go between the wardrobe and the bed. Will be squishy and not ideal but will only be for the first 6 months so I'm sure we'll manage.

Hi everyone,

Firstly thanks so much for your thoughts, I really appreciate them.

The window isn't draughty but it does feel cold, if that makes sense. Our bedroom is north facing and we're in Edinburgh so it'll still be chilly when baby arrives.

Did consider moving the furniture around but the wardrobe is fitted and the bed can't really good anywhere else! Might be able to move the bed over as @Violetbeau suggested but would need to make sure DH will have access to his clothes once his paternity leave ends. Although, he may still be working from home and he happily works in his pjs just now lol.

I guess if push comes to shove I could always up sticks and sleep in the nursery!

I had the snuz pod next to my side of the bed. it wasn't any wider than my bedside table if I recall correctly. We didn't attach it to the bed with the straps like you are supposed to so could move it out the way in the daytime. Do you have curtains on the window? That could reduce the draught. If they're double glazed and no obvious gaps etc I'd think that was ok. Always better for a baby to be slightly too cold as you can layer blankets etc on.
