My baby is breech, has anyone had a successful ECV? I've only heard bad things from friends about it which makes me want to say no thanks!

I had an ECV and whilst they managed to get her head down on the third attempt, she flipped back after 10 minutes. When she was delivered they mentioned she had a short cord so perhaps that was why. I was booked in for a c-section at my scan 3 days after the ECV

I'm glad I tried the ECV though. I wanted a vaginal delivery. it wasn't meant to be and my c-section was positive.

I found the procedure itself very uncomfortable but short lived and the truth is that I would have another one for this baby if it was an option. they monitor you very closely before, throughout and after and I was able to stop the procedure at anytime. They gave me a muscle relaxant and gas and air (which I didn't use)

I had a very positive experience with an ECV.

I found out my first was breech at 41 weeks, she was scanned and found to be around 8lbs and footling breech. They basically said my only option was a c-sec but I'm glad I asked if there were alternatives. The consultant discussed an ECV but said it was extremely unlikely to work as the baby was so big already, but the risks of trying were very small so I thought I should give it a go just in case. It happened to be the beech clinic that day so they could try it immediately.

There were two very experienced midwives who did a wonderful job. They came in and said they'd try first without the muscle relaxant drug as it apparently makes your heart race. I'd been doing hypnobirthing prep so just got into the relaxation zone and tried to ignore them pushing on my belly. The hardest bit was trying to stay relaxed when I could feel them moving her around, I was so excited that it was working!

It was all done in 10 mins, it was uncomfortable but not painful and I managed to give birth vaginally a week later. It was the best experience of my whole pregnancy and I'm so so glad I did it.

I was booked in for one but baby had turned before the appointment! For me, it was preferable to going straight to section. Also success rates vary depending on your practitioner. The midwife told me the consultant in my hospital was very good and had a success rate of around 75%. My friend had an appointment with her the week before me and she successfully turned her baby. She went on to have a vaginal delivery.

NO No No don't do it!

After a full term stillbirth due to a cord entanglement, my rainbow baby was transverse. An ECV was suggested. The risk of it causing a cord entanglement was just to high. My midwife suggested I do my research, I did and my DD is now 12 after a safe sunroof arrival.

Thanks so much all for sharing your experiences, some food for thought! My previous two children were big babes so I wonder if there is even room for it to turn.

@sheslittlebutfierce I'm so sorry for your loss. You are right there are risks to it and that is why I am tempted by the straight to c section route.

I had an unsuccessful ecv with my daughter, she just kept getting almost there and flipping back round. Very painful experience. She then turned all on her own the night before my c section

starsinyourpies · 06/12/2020 15:41

@Sarahplane thanks for that, am trying Moxibustion first, would be amazing if baby just flipped itself!!

I am 37+2 and a scan last week showed they are still very much breech. I had an appointment with the doctor after who gave option of ECV or C Section but as much as she didn't say it explicitly, I felt it was quite obvious due to how far down the baby is that they felt the chance of turning was very minimal. I really did not want a c section but they have been in this breech position for a long time now and after various discussions feel it is the safer option.

@happydays423 I think this will be me next week. Do you have a date for your section?
