C-section pre-op appointment - do you get scanned??

I just found out my baby is breech 3 days ago (I'm 37+1). I am booked in for an ECV but after some research I am planning to cancel and book in for a c-section instead.
At first this was scary but now I'm actually feeling very happy about the idea having a planned c-section. Oddly, this now means I'm worried that baby will turn and I won't be allowed a C-section (or get talked out of it as I'm not good at standing up for myself).

My question is : will they scan me again before the section date? I know they scan you before the op on the day but I -think- in that case we could elect to continue as planned. I'm not sure if that's true if they scan before and find baby has turned before the actual date.

My second baby was breech. My waters broke the day before my planned section. When I got to hospital they hooked me up on the monitors and scanned me as they felt he was beginning to rotate. They then just simply asked if I wanted to try labour or continue with the section.

But it was my second baby and I’d had a section with my first so I’m not sure that had any relevance to their nonchalance !

I am in Dublin but they scanned me just before I went into theatre. Anyone else I know was the same.

DC2 was breech, when I booked the section I was asked if I wanted to try for a vaginal birth if the baby had moved on the day, I said I'd rather just stick with the section either way, so they didn't bother scanning. My first DC was an EMCS, so not sure if that made a difference.

All they really did at the pre-op was talk through which would happen/ where to be when, and give me some stuff to clean my noise out with before (had already had body wash, but swap test said I needed that too)

Thank you for all your replies that is reassuring. It's an odd thing as I never expected to feel this way about having a C-section "taken away from me". I feel like I'm thinking the wrong way but actually, accepting that it's ok to want a C-section, I definitely know it feels right for me.

They scanned me on the operating table just before they did the csection! Like you I was then petrified he would've turned and I would be all set to have a baby in about 30 minutes, and might have been told to go home and wait up to 2 weeks!! I did check and they said it would be my choice and I could continue with the section even if he had turned as it was all planned and booked etc. Luckily he hadn't so I didn't have to make that decision!

I wasn’t scanned at my pre op but was scanned on the day of delivery by the surgeon to check his position

I'm seeing my consultant today to find this stuff out for definite (38+4) as baby turns all the time and midwife thinks she's breech again. The midwife said they would scan on the day to check babys position if I book a section and id be able to opt out if she's moved again. I'm the opposite where I really don't want a section at all, but I'd rather that than attempt a breech VD. I was told to ask the consultant today if they would agree to induction instead of section if she's turned on the day. Lots of ifs for me at the moment 😅 glad you posted this thread though @GlassboatSailor its gonna be on my mind all day until my app!

I was also scanned 5 mins before being wheeled into Theatre. They did say they'd send me home if she had turned although whether they would have followed through on that threat I don't know! I was booked in the week before Christmas and they were VERY busy getting all the electives in before Christmas week though.
At my pre-op appointment they just gave me my time-slot for when to arrive at the hospital, my nil-by-mouth schedule and the drugs you have to take the night before and the morning of.
When I was booked in at 37w after a failed ECV they also did the MRSA swab so you will probably have that at some point. It's up the nose and in your groin

My unstable lie footling breech baby turned the morning of the ELCS (all 8lbs 6ozs of him) - ouch! But I still had the CS, it was all planned and the staff and theatre were ready. I had to be firm though. Stick to your guns.
