Anyone not take folic acid for long?

Hi found out I was pregnant November 3rd, took the pregnacare liquid since but it’s really making my nausea worse. I’ve not took it for the last 3 days because I can’t stomach it. Problem is I don’t know how far along I am. Had implant out 20th August and never had a period before falling, got booking appointment on 3rd December.
Anyone not took it or stopped taking it and had no problems with the baby?

There will be people who never took it and had no problems. But it is better to take it - why take the risk? Ditch the pregnacare shite and get yourself some basic folic acid tablets. Less than a quid.

Me...GP said just eat really healthy foods with FA in

Honest I’m pathetic at taking tablets that’s why I swapped to the liquid but it’s like tar 😣

I’m struggling with food! I can’t eat. Forcing my self to have bowls of cereal as it’s all I can stomach 😥

There will always be people who didn’t take it and everything was fine, the same way there will be people who don’t wear a seatbelt and have never been injured in an accident.

I've seen people say taking separate tablets was better for them to manage so a folic acid tablet and then like vit D, C, B(?) multi vitamin

PippinStar · 29/11/2020 22:54

I do think you should try to take plain, basic folic acid tablets - they are tiny and easy to swallow but you could always grind them into a powder first if you really can’t manage tablets. I had HG in my pregnancies and couldn’t keep anything down. I was told to avoid multivitamins and just take folic acid. The doctors told me babies can survive just fine with a limited nutrient / food intake as long as I stayed hydrated and took folic acid.

As pp said you can get tiny folic acid tablets. Please take them. I know you asked for positive experiences, but I have a very sad one that ended in a horrible diagnosis for my baby. It's not worth the risk.

JamaicanJamboree · 30/11/2020 00:09

Could the liquid stuff be mixed in with fruit juice or something like that if you can stomach it?
If not I have seen various vitamin sprays around where I think you just literally spray your mouth and absorb the vitamins that way.
Good luck.

I have HG and my doctor has prescribed me tiny folic acid pills and told me just to take those rather than the monstrous multivits. 3 days in and I've managed to keep them down so far...

Just get folic acid and vitamin d combined from boots. It’s tiny.

PlantMamma · 05/12/2020 21:43

I got folic acid and vit d tablets from my midwife. Much more manageable 👍🏼👍🏼

I had hg and ended up in hospital due to dehydration. I couldn't keep most things down for all of my pregnancy, so no hope of me getting the vitamins in! DD was born healthy. Wouldn't have chosen not to but sometimes it's not a choice.

Pregnacare tablets made me feel horrific first baby! I was fine before i took them then as soon as i did the nausea was horrific. Just taking normal folic acid tabs this time round every day and a standard vitimin some days this time.

This. Take them last thing at night before you go to sleep if you struggle with nausea.

Take your folic acid.

It lowers the risk of neural tube defects. I just lost my baby with severe spina bifida (and I took folic acid religiously), I wouldn't wish the experience on anyone. It is horrific.

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise - I’m so sorry for your loss Flowers

OP has updated to say she is managing to take the folic acid now due to new tablets from the midwife.
