Nursing/Rocking chairs

Hi

Can anyone let me know if a nursing/rocking chair was really useful for them with their baby and do they get good use out of them?

I've seen lots of nursing chairs second hand (the glider ones) but they aren't really something i would normally pick style-wise.

I like the look of some other rocking chairs or rocking armchairs but they are either really expensive or not sure they would be comfy to sit in.

What are your recommendations?

I haven't had one with my previous 3, however my oh has one from when his was born. So he's put it together for me to use, no idea how useful its gonna be! I wouldn't Have bought one though, it always seemed like an unnecessary expense to me.

I've got a glider chair which I put a nice throw over. We've used it for years, first with ds1 for feeding then later reading bedtime stories on. Now it will be used for this one who is due imminently

We have a tub rocking chair as more of our style and can pick them up fairly cheaply £40-£120. we never really used it a lot when he was small but as he's gotten bigger we use it a lot more when he's having a bag night can just go rock him back to sleep

I'm also not a fan of the glider ones style wise...I've gone for this and I love it!

I had a glider one when DD was little. It was amazing, so comfortable for night feeds and reading stories in. I’m hoping to get one this time too.

My DS is 3 now and I still use it when he needs a cuddle in the night from a nightmare. We bit in the chair and rock together until he calms down. Definitely worth the money

Yes we were given one with my first, would never have had one otherwise. But is was the best thing ever, loved it and upgraded for dc2.

They are ugly, but incredibly comfortable- try a few oit and imagine feeding in them as the arm height and recline is important

I didn't bother with DD - they just look really functional - not really something with any style and never many colours. Also expensive. Depends on how long you plan on breastfeeding for? Because I had to go back to work at 18 weeks it would have been a waste of money really plus you have to make a conscious effort to go upstairs to the nursery to use it unless it's downstairs- it's easier just to breastfeed wherever you happen to be?

We used an IKEA Poang chair and footstool in a colour which suited when the baby didn't need it any more and we moved it to the longe.

They also do a rocking version.

Pemberleys · 29/11/2020 13:52

Never saw the point in them, I just fed the baby wherever I was, usually on the couch watching telly or in bed. With my second there was even less likelihood of sitting in a comfy chair to feed uninterrupted. Lots of feeds sitting on the side of the bath while toilet training a toddler Hmm

Bobbiepin · 29/11/2020 13:57

Corner of the sofa with a cuppa was best for me! Didn't wanna have to go upstairs to sit on my own for every feed. If I wanted some space to feed, like if we had people over and I wanted a little more privacy, I sat on my bed.

leafinthewind · 29/11/2020 13:59

Second the Poang. Even without the rocker they 'bounce' nicely.

Picked up a glider one with footstool for a bargain on Facebook marketplace. It's got removable covers so I'm going to try and dye them to a darker colour.

Now, do I put it in the baby's room (which seems daft as they aren't sleeping in there) or downstairs in the living room to get maximum use out of it?
