Low lying placenta. When did you get c section.

Hi, I had a scan yesterday at 32+6 and my placenta is still low lying. I have a rescan at 36 weeks. If it hasn't moved I'm assuming I'll need a c section. If you had this, how far were you when you had your c section. I'm worried due to having my second at 38 weeks.

Thank you.

Is it covering the cervix at all or just right next to it? Mine is low lying but not covering the cervix at all, and nobody has mentioned an early section to me. Although if it's still low at 36 weeks (next week) I'll ask the question.

Did you say your second baby was born at 38 weeks? Was it problematic?

Floopyandtired · 28/11/2020 18:51

If you’re having a planned section they will do it at 39 weeks unless there’s a medical reason baby needs to be born earlier.

With me they carried on scanning till 39 weeks and it moved between 38 and 39

Nice guidelines say not before 39 weeks.

Hi. I had a low lying placenta partially covering my cervix. I had bleeding off and on from 32 weeks, we waited as long as was safe and then had a c section at 35+6. My daughter was a bit smal (2.6kg) but totally fine. We were discharged in 2 days. She's now a fit and healthy 3 year old. Hope that doesn't scare you, just wanted to share a positive story even if your baby does come earlier than you'd like. I remember feeling so worried about her being premature x

Thanks all, the consultant said that I'd be rescanned at 36 weeks and we would take it from there. They didn't say if it was full or partial as they couldn't see the cervix properly but said she could see enough to see that it's still too low. Then panicked me about bleeding.

As for dc2 being born at 38 weeks, it was natural spontaneous labour, I think he just wanted to make an early appearance.

@Brook450 so glad everything ended up being ok in the end for you.

Reading this with interest because I'm in the same situation - placenta is partially covering the cervix so I'm getting another scan at 35 weeks. C section has been mentioned but I'm hoping I can go as close to my due date as possible, not fancying giving birth around Christmas/New Year if I can help it

Mine was total/major placenta previa, but also anterior which is the riskier. I had my section at 37+5, (almost 5 months ago). All went well, I did end up on high dependency for the night but all fine now x

StaceImpactWfan · 29/11/2020 08:18

@Mummyspider27 glad all is well now. Mines posterior. I'm hoping its moved by 36 week scan if not then it is what it is.

I don't have a problem with waiting til 39 weeks for a section etc my main concern is if I go into natural labour before then, what happens?

If you go into labour before then you will be told to head straight to hospital/call an ambulance and they will perform an emergency c section when you arrive xx

Tempusfudgeit · 29/11/2020 09:24

I had a complete previa, and had a planned CS at 37+4 due to the risk of catastrophic bleeding. I actually woke up bleeding that morning, and luckily everything was in place ready at the hospital. It was as if my body knew it was 'go time'. Despite having the steroids, my DD still needed 2 days of SCBU. We're both fine now, good luck to you!
