Buggy Board?

Hi,

Not sure if posting in the right section.

Currently pregnant with DC2 and DC1 is 20 months, will be 2 by the time baby arrives.

Question is, should I buy a buggy board? I have a bugaboo fox kept from DC1, its brand new and I am reluctant to buy a double buggy. DC1 isn't a fan of sitting in a buggy anyway.

Would it be worth buying a buggy board? Or waste of money? The bugaboo one is £90 but can get for £80 atm

Thanks

I found mine an absolute lifesaver and used it all the time. Depending on the type they can be really cheap to pick up second hand too.

I'm currently pregnant with baby #2 and have had a look on Amazon as DD will only be 13 months old when baby is born, they do a seat thing similar to a buggy board! It has a steering wheel so they can pretend to drive 😂

We've got loads and loads of use out of the buggy board, it's great for shorter trips. They aren't as good for longer trips - standing for ages is actually hard work and they have to hold on so you can't use buggy time to get them to eat lunch / snacks.

We did however end up buying a 2nd hand double for longer days out (21 month age gap). We found the buggy refusing thing rapidly stopped once sibling jealousy and a sibling in the buggy came into the mix. If you do do longer days out it might be worth considering one.

We used ours loads. Didn’t cost as much as the one you looking at, though. It also depends what sort of trips out you make. We didn’t have a car, so ours was used all the time. A single buggy with a buggy board was much easier to manage on public transport.

I use mine lots, its a board with a little seat on and its dead handy for walking to nursery, short trips etc. Was under £20 from ebay, it's universal as long as you have a slim bar on the chassis of your pram. I keep debating a double as I tend to have toddler in her buggy and baby in a carrier when out shopping as DD will run riot otherwise and I get sick of having to tell her to come here / don't touch / put that back!

Thanks for all your replies.

My LB loves to just be running around so unsure if he would actually be sitting on it. I was considering selling both my bugaboo fox and babyzen yoyo and buy a double buggy (either double City mini or bugaboo donkey) but I don't really want to go through the hassle if my LB is going to get fed up in the buggy.

I would only be using the buggy board for trips to the shops on my own. For longer trips/days out my husband would be with me so he can run around after the 2 year old 😂

The other option I have is to take my babyzen yoyo for the toddler and put baby in the sling? Just wanted an alternative option for toddler x

I thought the same as you, got a buggy board for my Babyzen Yoyo (although not easy to find one that fitted) and figured I could use a combination of board and sling when DC2 arrived (21 month age gap). That lasted for about two weeks, until the first time I had to try and wrestle a kicking screaming toddler into the buggy when leaving the playground while trying to protect the baby strapped to my front! I went home and bought a double buggy the same day 😂

I would play it by ear and wait till closer to birth. My son is 2 and half and I am due in 8 weeks. We haven't used a buggy now for a few weeks as we go out for short walks. So we are planning on using a buggy board.

But last month pre lockdown I needed to pop into a shop and it was awful and I just wished he was in the buggy so I could contain him.

So we have two plans - short trips here and there buggy board.

Days out we are going to bring our micro buggy and throw under the pram.

And if it's a hassle - 2nd hand double buggy

LemonsYellow · 27/11/2020 12:33

Meant to add, my main means of transportation was a sling and a single buggy. The single buggy plus buggy board came later.

JanewaysBun · 27/11/2020 12:41

Dc1 fell off his buggy board and smashed his face in the pavement so we don't use it now.

Honestly a double is so useful when you just want to contain a tantrumming toddler (or 2) and be gone
Especially if you walk everywhere / far

I have a tandem as I found the side by side too wide to easily navigate shops

I have a two and a half year old and a 9 week old.

I have the egg stroller which I’ve converted to a double. We use that for most trips as it’s good to contain my toddler particularly if he doesn’t listen/ have a tantrum etc.
For shorter runs I’ll use a buggy board or I’ll walk the toddler and put baby in the sling.
Really what I’m saying is I think it’s best to keep your options open and use different methods of transport depending on where you are going, what you are doing there and if you have any support.
When I was pregnant I was pretty adamant I’d use sling and wouldn’t need a double but in reality it comes in really useful.

Duckchick · 27/11/2020 19:25

The sling and buggy thing worked well for me when the baby was small and light. I found it worked less well as the baby got to 6 months plus and was heavy.... If you have a fairly small gap, you still have a under 3 year old toddler at that point who may well still run off if you take your eye off then / nap in the buggy at times.

If you do go down the double route I'd recommend the City mini not the donkey with your age gap. The seats are surprisingly small in the donkey and huge in the City mini, so you'll get a lot more use out of the City mini. We were able to keep using ours on longer days out until DC1 was 4 and he still fit easily.

Twizbe · 27/11/2020 19:27

My eldest was 2 when I had baby. We tried a buggy board but he was a bit too young to use it really.

I got a second hand vista which was amazing as a double. Used it as one until DC2 was 6 months by which time DC1 was better on the buggy board.

We got a buggy board with a seat for our bugaboo and DD loves it but she was nearer 3 when we had DS. I bought it for £60 on eBay and it was perfect condition.
