What to use for daytime naps?

Hi guys, I'm pregnant with my first child and not due until April but with the Black Friday sales have managed to get most of the main things we need for little one e.g. Travel system, nursery furniture etc

I've ordered a Next To Me for sleeping overnight but some people have suggested I'll still need a moses basket downstairs for daytime naps.. I didn't really want to get both and was wondering what else people have used instead for downstairs? I've seen a lot of people mention a sleepyhead but they seem really pricey so what else could we use?

Thanks :)

I have a 5 month old.

Day time naps 0-2months were pretty much on me or DP. Look up the 4th trimester.

Chico next to me is good, just swapped for actual cot next to my bed and it’s horrendous, going to switch back.

DC didn’t like sleeping in chico at first but I lay a blanket along our bed and the cot so it was the same texture and when he’s fall asleep on our bed slide him across into Chico.

From about 2m the pram carry cot is perfect, not sure what you mean by moving it? We just had the pram set up from walks and stuff. Can rock them in it then too. Wheel it to the kitchen or garden wherever you go.

Now at 5m naps are wherever I can bloody get him to sleepGrin cot, our bed, pram, cad, argh in my arms.

We had a Moses basket upstairs because we didn’t have room for anything bigger in our room. I carried it downstairs in the mornings. To be honest though I just got her used to sleeping in her pram or sling because I was always out and about. My daughter was still having 2 hour naps in her pram at 2 and half. One of my friends always put her baby down for a nap in the same place and same time everyday and it seemed like such a faff to me. She was always having to get home for naps and work their social life around them.
We got our Moses basket for £9 in an Asda baby sale btw, so it doesn’t have to be expensive

Okay I think I'm going to hold off with the Moses basket until the little man is here and decide if I can just use the pram carrycot or maybe get a bouncer.. Working in childcare I'm reluctant to let baby sleep on me too often as I've seen firsthand how hard it can be for others to get them to sleep when you're not there!

Another vote for the carrycot- ours comes off with two button pressed (maxicosi) but tbh we left it on the wheels, summer baby and wanted her to be up and out of the way of our pets. Next to me was great too!

Lots us in my NCT group bought something like this - the bassinet was good in the newborn stages and then the seat was good a bit later on. Some of us were still using it at 7-8 months! Even my midwife commented on how good it was when she came for my checks.

@popgoeshertail someone else has suggested this too and I do like the look of it but I was trying not to spend too much 🤦🏼‍♀️

We used carry cot from pram. Check it’s safe for sleeping overnight in and should be fine but mainly those first six weeks he slept on us. My boy was an April baby this year. Hope you have a better start to motherhood with covid than we did Confused

firsttimemomtobex · 28/11/2020 17:46

@Whatelsecouldibecalled yes our carry cot is suitable for overnight sleeping so should be okay.. Thankyou I'm hoping so but it doesn't look likely at the moment, my partner still isn't allowed at my hospital scans!

@firsttimemomtobex I can’t believe they are still banned at scans yet you can go to the pub or in some areas football. Unbelievable.

My husband wasn’t wasn’t allowed at hospital until I had laboured to the magic number but honestly it was totally fine. Just incase that happens to you. He was allowed in in plenty of time for birth. Less than ideal but it was fine. Wishing you lots of luck.

DC1 just napped on the sofa in the day, but with DC2 we needed something more contained so she'd be protected from DC1. We got a Moses basket for free on a local fb group - people are constantly giving them away so I strongly recommend not paying for one!
