Consultant confusion

Hi all, apologies in advance for the long post! I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant and so far had a really good pregnancy my only issue is with the inconsistency between consultants and wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.
At my 20 week scan I was advised C-section would be the best for me and my baby for the following reasons:
-11cm fibroid close to my cervix which my cause issues in delivery of the baby and placenta

  • 6 previous blood transfusions so a way to limit blood loss.
I have mentally prepared for this throughout the pregnancy to see another consultant at 32 weeks who told me I ‘may’ be able to have a vaginal birth. My concern is how can plans vary from consultant to consultant and can I request C-section as I feel it’s the safest way for me and my baby and avoids the potential of a stressful long labour! My baby is now also back to back!

I’d imagine the last consultant has looked to see whether the size of your fibroid has grown and whether it looks to be causing an issue or not. Or it could be the first one is more risk adverse. Either way, if you feel happier with a c section just say that was discussed and agreed by your at 20 weeks and you still want to go ahead so can you book a date in.

Thanks for your reply, the fibroid is still in the same place measuring the same size that’s why I was so confused about how opinions were so varied. This last consultant made me feel awful for suggesting I’d still rather have a C section as that’s what I’ve prepared for

Yes you can request a c section and just keep giving your reasons why. Some hospitals book you in quite early, others much later. I was given the ok at 28 weeks and it wasn't booked until 36 weeks. DD arrived early and I had a vbac at 38 weeks!
They will go through all the risks of a cs with you and if the consultant won't agree to one ask for another consultant. If you go into labour before they ask what you want to do. I was asked numerous times to make sure I was sure that I didnt want the cs.
