Hey guys. We are looking for a travel system from newborn. Hoping for a bit of guidance and advice.

One of the main features we are looking for is a pushchair that is friendly on dog walks and slightly rougher terrain than a normal tarmac path.

Does anyone have a good recommendation that is at a reasonable cost?

The out and about nipper with air filled tyres is great off road.

A baby carrier or sling might be easier & a good pair of walking boots for you.
Congratulations x

Out and about nipper or a buggaboo easy to push one handed. Also a good sling.

Our babyjogger city mini gt has gone everywhere for 4.5 years and is on 2nd child. Both kids went straight into it from newborn, never bought a carrycot.

Babyjogger city mini GT

They are bloody AMAZING and withstand anything. I honestly can not recommend them enough (and I've had a lot of different buggies)

Mountain buggy

You can get carrycots for them, which is what we did. It worked very well.

I had the mountain buggy terrain, brilliant off road. Only a couple of car seats fit it though, can also buy the carrycot+ which can lie flat, slight angle for reflux or a sort of hammock style which my daughter loved being in, was like being held

Mountain Buggy, I have a 7 month old and a 1 year old and we walk the dog across fields and down muddy paths and it is a brilliant buggy for off-road and about town.

(I foster before anyone says it's not possible to have babies so close in age. It would be pretty tricky given that I am in my late 50s too)

fandigo · 26/11/2020 20:56

Baby jogger city elite. It can go anywhere. Foam filled tyres so never gets punctured. I have a baby jogger city mini too and the elite is definitely better for off roading (hence being more expensive)

I had an Out nAbout nipper (the double) and regularly got flat tyres. Absolute disaster when you've two babies and are a decent distance from home

We go walking in the forest a lot and can really recommend a Thule Glide. It’s a running buggy really but it’s ridiculously light to push and so easy on rough terrain, and dealt with an unexpected trip to a beach with the tide out like it was nothing. Never seen a buggy glide over wet sand like that (clue’s in the name I guess) I had a mountain buggy for my younger dc ten years ago but the quality isn’t what it was anymore, I think they’re no longer made in New Zealand and when we tried one out I could really feel the difference. My original felt indestructible, practically riveted together but the newer ones just felt cheap while being anything but.

From recommendations I have just purchased a mountain buggy, I have a 21 month old and due twins any time in the next week and a bit. We have lots of dogs due to my partners work and will be rough terrain walking daily.. I also liked it because of the 4 air filled tires rather than hard plastic ones! It also folds down really nice and pretty flat too! I'm excited to use it lol

Out n about nipper 360, can take car seat adaptors. Front wheel locks out, so good for all terrain. If you struggle with punctures (I never did) then you can either slime the tyres or buy a set of solid wheels. We did hundreds of miles with ours, it was at least third hand when we got it and is still in use with new owners now.

Megan2018 · 26/11/2020 21:20

We have the icandy All terrain- I wanted something parent facing and a compact fold which ruled out a lot.
15 months down the line and it’s brilliant-no regrets.

It’s on the farm doing horses every day but still works well in town too.

I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago. The Mountain Buggy Swift was recommended. I've just managed to get one off eBay with all the extras too. We haven't used it yet but it does seem perfect.

lookingatthings · 26/11/2020 21:31

I bought a mountain buggy (second hand ) recently and LOVE IT. I struggled with for 19m with our armadillo xt from mamas and papas- it could not cope. But this is bloody brilliant. I'm expecting number 2 soon so have a double, and have replaced the wheels with slime filled tyres after two punctures, but other than that I really recommend. Theres also an FB group with people always selling whole systems for anywhere between 100-350 depending on what's included.
