Would you go in for reduced movement?

I am 34+4. I've been in already 3 times for reduced movement, and every time it's been fine. At 32w when I went in they kept me overnight, scanned me and said I should have thrice weekly monitoring. But I stopped that this week bc I was feeling more consistent movement and felt fine about it.

Today she just hasn't been as kicky. I've felt her for sure; and in fact twice I've laid down to check. The first hour I barely got any kicks, but after drinking some juice she then kicked over 10 times in an hour. And the next time I laid down to check she kicked 10 times in an hour as well. (I'm just using the 10 as a general benchmark, I know it's not a science).

But there's just way less wriggling when I'm standing / siting and I'm basically only feeling her when I lie down and realllly concentrate.

I don't know if I'm being over sensitive or if I should go in. Any tips? I'm worried they're going to think I'm a head case.

I'd definitely ring them to see what they think!! Always better to be too cautious!

Sadandsadder888 · 25/11/2020 15:16

Just go.

Yes, she’s probably absolutely fine but it’s much, much better to be checked.

JumperooSue · 25/11/2020 15:37

You should go in but also you shouldn’t focus on ‘kicks’ instead you should consider periods of any type of movement. As babies get bigger there will be less obvious kicks and the movement will feel more like rolling and slow movements of their limbs instead of the aggressive kicks and summersaults you may have felt previously.

Any type of reduce movement should be monitored, but you shouldn’t be focusing on 10 kicks in an hour etc, you need to be aware of your babies own pattern and focus of the periods of movement you get😊

Robs20 · 25/11/2020 15:42

Yes I would go in. Don’t worry about going in as much as you need to, it’s much better to check. I went in with rfm thinking I was over worrying. I had severe pre-eclampsia and needed urgent treatment and was admitted until the birth. I’m not suggesting anything will be wrong at all, just better to check.

Oneandabean · 25/11/2020 16:53

Definitely go in if your worried. But don’t focus so much on number of kicks. Baby should be having around the same amount of movement sessions per day. Mine doesn’t kick very often but is still moving about a lot.

SeaOtterPatrol · 25/11/2020 16:59

Always go in - much better to go in and be checked (even if you feel like an annoyance) than to leave it. I went in a few times for reduced movements and was always so glad I did, even though everything was always ok!

christinarossetti19 · 25/11/2020 17:01

Yes, go in.

That's what they're there for.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 25/11/2020 17:05

Honestly, If you've thought about it enough to start this post, I'd just go.

It's obviously playing on your mind and better to be safe at this late stage.

When I went in they said although it was fine on that occasion. Do not hesitate to come back again at any point if worried.

pinkyboots1 · 25/11/2020 17:05

If they've recommended that you need to be monitored 3 times a week then I think it's likely they feel it's important so I'd definitely go in... it's always better to be cautious

wimbler · 25/11/2020 17:05

They would much rather you go in and it turn out to be nothing!

TheVanguardSix · 25/11/2020 17:06

Yes. It’s your precious baby. Flowers

latheritup · 25/11/2020 17:07

Yes I went several times and every time I was well cared for. You know your baby's normal pattern. I was eventually induced at 38+5 because of them.

EdmundElephantIsACleverClogs · 25/11/2020 17:08

Yes I would go.
I went in twice and each time the midwife told me they would rather see 100 people who didn't need to be there than miss 1 that did.

I'm sure she'll be totally fine but it's always better to get checked for your own peace of mind Smile

Meepmeeep · 25/11/2020 17:09

You really need to call them - they can advise a hell of a lot better than randoms on a forum. The hospital I gave birth in after my first occurrence of reduced movements really impressed on me that although that incident was nothing don’t think that going forward and to call them even if I thought I was time wasting.

TheStripes · 25/11/2020 17:10

Yes, go in. I went in for reduced movements once and it turned out it was because my baby was dying. I’d be concerned that you are having several sessions of reduced movements and insist on seeing fetal medicine.

TheRealJeanLouise · 25/11/2020 17:10

Please please please go in, whenever you feel that pang of “she isn’t the same today” and if they offer you extra monitoring, take it. It’s worth it and nobody will feel bad about you for doing the right thing.

CottonSock · 25/11/2020 17:12

Yes please go.

ballsdeep · 25/11/2020 17:12

Please go in

gb000 · 25/11/2020 17:18

Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice. I called them and basically just cried down the phone at the midwife (!!) - I'm on my way in now.

I'm sure everything is fine OP, but you're doing the right thing. Glad you're on your way in x

gb000 · 25/11/2020 19:22

As an update, everything was fine. The midwives were so kind. They've booked me for another scan tomorrow, I think the guidelines insist on it if you present with reduced movements over 3 times. Thank you again for your advice and concern 💝
