Baby nails...

Hi everyone,

Im in the process of buying for my essentials list for when little one arrives.

I've read that filing is easiest when they are very small and nails are growing quickly. This may seem like a silly question but can I just use a usual nail file/emery board or should I buy a baby specific one?

I'm thinking of doing it this way as I've read that clipping and cutting can be tricking and biting is a no-no in terms of hygiene.

Any advice and recommendations would be great. Thank you! :)

When they're tiny I used to peel them off when they broke. Never used nail clippers!

Biting is what I did. Much less scary than cutting when they are tiny. Lots of people I know did it, never heard of any concerns.

Clippers are easier to use than I expected, I found baby nails are so soft that they bent rather than filed away.

I used to nibble or peel then tidy up with a nail file (mine) - their nails are so soft at first. I did nick his skin the first time I tried to cut them, it was horrible!

I found a glass nail file really good, much less abrasive on their skin than an emery board, so that’s what I used first time round when I had the fear about cutting her. The second time round I was braver and just used baby nail clippers and it was absolutely fine, no issues either.
