Prolapse after childbirth willI be able to have another?

I’m 6 weeks pp and think I may have a prolapse - going to call GP tomorrow feels like a nagging ‘not quite right’ feeling and there is some kind of bulge/lump I’m not in any pain, and have been up and about since about day 6. I had a very long labour and forceps delivery.
The thought of having a prolapse really upsets me as I don’t know much about them? Can they be fixed without surgery and will I still be able to have another child and deliver vaginally?

I've got a minor prolapse if front and back walls (the rectocele is probably a grade 2). I'm pregnant with number two.

So soon post partum, it could still be things 'adjusting'. But you would need referral to a pelvic floor physio. There's stuff that can be done, mostly pelvic floor exercises.

I find mine quite upsetting. Mine's definitely worse with the constipation of pregnancy number 2. But I'm going to crack it. I'm not going to undergo surgery that may or may not fix my problems, which could cause irreparable damage in itself. But understand it's an option for some, though they don't recommend it until after you're done having children.

But there are non surgical options for many. Mostly involving strengthening the pelvic floor.

First step: gp for physio referral. Don't be fobbed off. I was/ am.

@physicskate congratulations on your pregnancy, thank you for your reply, will you be able to have a chance at delivering this one vaginally or does the prolapse affect that?
I’m going to call the GP later but I don’t know if they’ll see me face to face.
Does it ever go away or is it a case of once it’s there it’s there? Do the exercises make everything go back or just stop it getting worse?

I was convinced I had a prolapse both times after vaginal birth but it was just that everything hadnt quite returned to normal yet after the birth.

If if turns out you do have one it depends in the severity and which organs are involved but it is possible to improve without surgery

There has been no discussion of my NOT being able to give birth vaginally this time. I blame the three and a half day labour and forceps delivery.

It depends on the person and how aggressively you approach improving any prolapse as to whether there would be improvement or just not making it worse.

I'm considering buying one of those really gimicky pelvic floor trainers and doing private physio after this one arrives (private because the women's pelvic physio was less than useless during my last pregnancy at my nhs trust - but I'm sure some are better than others)!
