I'm 28 weeks pregnant & for the last day or so I've had pain & discomfort in my ribs
Sometimes it feels like strained muscles pain then it sometimes feels like I'm winded
I've had a look on google & it only seems to mention pre clampsia but I have no other symptoms of pre clampsia so I don't think it's that ?

Anyone else experience this ?

Tia

I had aching ribs in 3rd trimester with all of my babies. It got progressively worse until birth, had to sleep propped up on various pillows etc. I put it down to being just one of the (many) aches and pains of pregnancy that you don't read about in the books! The list is endless

Yes, I had this with my two. Just one of the myriad aches and pains of pregnancy and nothing sinister! Do mention it to your midwife to cover all bases, but in isolation I don’t think this is a symptom to worry about.

I also had this. It was the main reason I ended up starting my maternity leave early at 29 weeks, I could barely sit at a desk anymore without being in agony and spent most of the rest of my pregnancy lying down.

I had this, ended up being nothing to worry about! I told my midwife who told me to ring 111 if it got worse, which it did and then ended up sending an ambulance out, ended up having a scan to rule out a pulmonary embolism! Definitely best to mention it to your midwife!

My midwife called it rib flare. I had a giant tubigrip for it during first pregnancy which helped a bit, but during second one was told that was no longer recommended.
I found that sitting in an IKEA Poang chair was a good position for me.

Thank you ladies !!

I've had a bath , that hasn't eased the pain but baby was very active whilst I was in in the bath

I'm now lying on my side on the bed & the pain has eased ever so slightly

Much appreciated Smile

I had this with my first so badly that I would be in tears by the end of the day. I think it's your rib cage making space for the baby, those muscles stretching in between the ribs.
I found doing stretches helped, stretch your arms upwards, even place them on a wall and inch them up as far as they can go. Stay on your feet as much as possible as sitting compresses your torso and means the baby needs even more outward space.
My rib cage didn't fully shrink back after having ds and I haven't had the same pain again in this pregnancy thank god.
