Advice needed - aspirin

I've been prescribed 150 mg aspirin by my consultant due to previous high blood pressure (this was 5 years ago and due to a steroid producing brain tumour- all removed and blood pressure normal now.)

I've previously suffered from a stillborn daughter and a mmc two years ago so I am concerned about taking anything that could have a negative affect.

I understand that I have been prescribed but I'm just looking for reassurance that I'm doing the right thing.

Thank you all

It's definitely safe to take and in your situation probably safer to take it than to not take it. I'm on 75mg a day to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia, I'm pretty sure it can be taken early in to prevent miscarriage too.

My midwife told me that in the NHS Trust of the next city along to me every pregnant woman is told to take it from 12 weeks and they'll be rolling that out here soon too.

I'm taking 150mg aspirin too due my my diabetes and increase in complications. I was also sceptical and a bit nervous but had a good chat with my midwife and was reassured. It's very common for woman to now take aspirin for 1 reason or another in pregnancy.

Yes, please don't worry. With previous high blood pressure in your history, they will want to reduce the possibility of pre-eclampsia. As a PP said, aspirin is prescribed quite widely and routinely for a variety of reasons.

I'm 11 weeks and taking 150mg Aspirin to due to previous pre eclampsia.
I'm not worried. It's very safe .

I’m also on 150mg of asprin due to my mum having had pre-eclampsia with me and it being my ‘first’ pregnancy (‘first’ as I had a MMC earlier this year but that doesn’t count in this situation). I remember being a bit worried when I was told I had to take it at first but lots of reading reassured me. A lot of people actually take it as it’s through to reduce the risk of MC, too. I’m now 24 weeks and all is going well 🤞🏼
All I will say is that if it’s not on a prescription, make sure you top up every time you go to the supermarket as it’s like gold dust (around here at least!) - and they won’t sell it to you at the pharmacy if you say it’s because you’re pregnant.

Sorry, just noticed you said it’s been prescribed so you can ignore that last bit!

I have a history of recurrent miscarriage and my consultant prescribed me 150mg of aspirin too. She said there wasn’t much evidence for its use in these circumstances but it certainly wouldn’t do any harm. I am now nearly twelve weeks and all seems to be going well.

@Elles87 I was terrified about taking anything during my pregnancy even when it was prescribed but had a chat with my midwife and she reassured me about taking the 150 mg aspirin. Took it from 12 weeks - had a healthy baby boy 3 weeks ago 😊 hope you have a healthy pregnancy!

MaryShelley1818 · 23/11/2020 21:40

I took 150mg in my last pregnancy (healthy little boy who's now nearly 3) and in this one (28wks pregnant with a little girl who's currently kicking away!).
They prescribe it to you for a reason and wouldn't if it wasn't safe to take x

I was prescribed aspirin in my pregnancy due to my sister having pre eclampsia and a PE at the age of 19.

I was advised to take 75mg in early stages to prevent miscarriage. I saw consultant at 14 weeks who has upped it to 150mg due to me having small babies. She said that it is rare that they don’t give aspirin these days! I was told it helps blood flow across the placenta at low dose. Good luck
