Hi all, hoping you could help.

So I have been booked for a GD test next Monday (30th) I will be exactly 26 weeks then. This was booked as diabetes runs in my family. With my first LB I only done a blood test at 26 weeks which was fine.

This time I need to go to the maternity assessment unit to get a fasting blood sugar test. This is at 8.30am in the morning and have been told on the letter I will be there for a few hours.

The trouble is, I have absolutely no idea how I am going to manage to last until after the hospital to eat 🙈 I did a trial run at the weekend and I felt sick and shake because I hadn't eaten. Is this in itself a symptom of GD?

I have googled symptoms of GD but realise a lot of people r diagnosed without any symptoms.

Thanks in advance

I suggest eating as late as possible the night before. I think you need to fast for 12hrs. Make sure you top up on water. Once you have the first bloods taken, they will give you a sugary drink that will help with the hunger. Make sure you have a snack to get straight after the second lot of bloods. All the best xx

Take a snack with you to have as soon as the second part of the test is over. You don’t have to do anything in the two hours between the first part and the second part except sit quietly, so hopefully that will help. You may also find that the drink itself is enough to keep you going because it obviously gives your blood sugars a boost.

Take a snack with you, as pp said.

Also, if you're feeling sick and shaky, then yes, it's an indication something isn't right

Hi I had the fasting test at 28 weeks. I couldn’t eat anything past 10pm the night before and I was there for 7:30 the next morning. They were quite quick at seeing me and giving the Glucose drink which did help with the hunger and water you can drink as well which helps. I had to sit still for 2 hours and only move if I needed the toilet. Like pp says, take a snack with you. I downloaded something on my phone to watch to pass the time and to try and distract myself
