Boss requesting copy of appointment letter

My boss is requesting a copy of my appointment letter. No other pregnant staff have been asked for this. Not sure why I am. Have been told it’s for my records. Have been told by staff that this boss gets funny about people having time off for medical appointments. They are letting me go but the whole situation feels uneasy. Advice?

They are entitled to ask for evidence of appointments - just give them a copy Hmm

Yes. What other "advice" fo you want?
LittleMissLockdown · 22/11/2020 18:29

I'm surprised anyone would be suprised to be asked for proof of a medical appointment, it's a pretty standard policy.

MostDefinitelyNot · 22/11/2020 18:29

I seem to recall showing my boss proof of all my appointments. Don't see the harm in it.

HeeeeyDuggee · 22/11/2020 18:31

They’re entitled to ask to see proof of any pregnancy related appointments. Just show them a copy

Snackasaurus · 22/11/2020 18:33

Just take them a copy in Smile

seashellseashell123 · 22/11/2020 18:35

2 pregnancies and I've never been asked by my employer or line manager for copies of anything other than the Mat B1 form.

I don't even have copies I could provide to be honest midwife appointments were always arranged whilst in the previous appointment and even scans I often had arranged at the previous one.

Sweetpea12 · 22/11/2020 18:38

In my job we aren’t asked to show letters of appointment but it shouldn’t be a problem to just give them a copy Smile if anything we are paid for maternity appointments and not others so I would rather prove where I was going

Alonelonelyloner · 22/11/2020 18:49

It's not suspicious. It should be normal practise.

No harm no foul. Just email them a scan of your appointment letter.

Heyahun · 22/11/2020 19:03

Just give him the appointment letter 😂 he can’t refuse you time off for pregnancy related appointment !

Turtleturtle81 · 22/11/2020 19:19

This is pretty standard HR policy.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 22/11/2020 19:21

It's a standard hr policy for virtually every employer.

If you don't have a letter request an appointment card with your appointment written in, they will be fine to provide it as it really is perfectly normal.

Why are you so bothered by it?

Helenknowsbest · 22/11/2020 20:31

Sorry but I agree with others. Its a standard HR practice to ask for appointment letters for scans and appointments. I had to provide them to my work. My advice would be to give them a copy and not dwell on it :)

CMAYF11 · 22/11/2020 20:38

I guess my boss is a lot more trusting. I just put a private appointment in his diary to let him know I'll be out for an hour. He's never asked for proof

ScottishStardust · 22/11/2020 20:55

You're entitled to paid time off for appointments, so I think it's pretty reasonable for the company to ask for copies of appointment letters.

yarrow89 · 22/11/2020 21:06

My boss asked for a few of them, but mainly because he's a man without kids and I think he was a little shocked at how many appointments there actually are haha! I wasn't offended.

emma911030 · 22/11/2020 23:09

I've never once been asked for proof of appointment for any pregnancy or non pregnancy related appointments. If I was still early on and it was for booking appointment or 12 week scan I'd feel a little reluctant as I wouldn't want anyone knowing I was pregnant until I had seen at the scan that everything was so far looking good, I certainly wouldn't want to have to then say to my boss don't worry I'll not need any more as I've miscarried or something like that!!

premiumhob · 22/11/2020 23:16

I'm surprised that you get letters. Our appointments are all allocated by phone/text these days.

AmyFl · 22/11/2020 23:19

It's not fair if you are the only pregnant employee being asked to do this. Sounds like you are being singled out?

Inaquandry19 · 22/11/2020 23:24

They are entitled to ask for them so not sure why this is a big issue. I always handed mine in, even though I wasn't asked for them.

Crabwoman · 22/11/2020 23:29

I just scanned mine and sent them over. I thought that was normal practice?

SpillingTheTea · 22/11/2020 23:31

I never handed my in.
They have to give you paid time off for your pregnancy appointments anyway.
Just hand it in if they have asked but I'd be asking why they're singling you out.

MoonJelly · 22/11/2020 23:40

Why would pregnant staff be exempt from producing evidence of appointments?
