Partial molar

Hi everyone, just found out today that the missed miscarriage I thought I had back in October was a partial molar pregnancy, I had 1 MVA and 1 ERPC to clear the uterus before they knew which both failed. I'm referred to Sheffield hospital and and 'watching and waiting' as HCG levels seem to be coming down on their own. If things don't go to plan I will be having methotrexate. Has anyone else experienced molar or partial molar pregnancy that can give me some words of advice ? Anyone had successful pregnancy afterwards as this is my main concern. Thank you !!!

I'm really sorry you're going through this. My former mentor had a molar followed by two healthy girls.

Be kind to yourself.

Hey! I had a complete molar this year.

I was also with Sheffield - they’re absolutely lovely and call every now and again to check in. And they’re always there to speak if you’re worried ☺️

I don’t know if it’s the same for you, but I had to be monitored until my HCG levels hit 0. Once these hit zero, I was monitored for 6 months. This involved sending off pee samples every two weeks and a blood test at 12 weeks. My levels hit 0 four weeks after the op. I was told I shouldn’t try for a baby until the monitoring was over as the new pregnancy can mask any molar regrowth (but this is so rare).

I think with a partial molar the monitoring isn’t for as long if your levels are normal again, but I’m sure Sheffield will let you know!

I’m currently pregnant, 4 + 4 and have an early scan booked for December with my previous history. I’m sorry I can’t give you any good news yet with my pregnancy as I’m still so early, but I’ve read a lot of women go on to have healthy pregnancies even straight after a molar (not everyone manages to wait so long/or is told about a partial molar before they’re pregnant again).

I think an important thing to remember is to look after yourself and don’t overthink things too much. There were nights when I was terrified, reading forums about the worst case scenario. Blaming myself and thinking something is wrong with me. But really I should have just focused on getting better and taking it one day at a time. So please look after yourself and speak to Sheffield as much as you need as the nurses are so lovely. I’m also here if you want to ask me anything at all ☺️

@Forest27
Thank you so much for replying, I've just had another phone call to say my levels are rising so this isn't good news. Not sure what is next, will wait to hear from Sheffield.

Great that your levels reduced so quickly!! Best of luck with your new pregnancy I'm sure it will be absolutely fine.

Yeah I just need to take each day as it comes, and hopefully everything will work itself out.

Everything crossed for you that this pregnancy goes well xx

@Collins99 Hi, I know this is a few months old now but just wondered how you got on with this?

A consultant from the hospital called me today to confirm a partial molar pregnancy, my ERPC was just over 4 weeks ago. I’m being referred to Sheffield too.

ploopypleepy · 22/04/2021 21:49

@MariaC03 hey, It's me I name changed 😂. I'm doing really well thank you, I got discharged early March after getting clear results at the start of January.... had a few bumps along the way and a massive bleed but ended up passing all the tissue myself. Hopefully they got everything with your ERPC. Sheffield are brilliant, hopefully your levels are already back normal !! We've started trying again now :)

MariaC03 · 23/04/2021 08:29

@ploopypleepy New name, new you! Ha!
So glad you’re back on the right track, from what I gather within the 6 months they say too. Hope everything goes well for you this year. I can’t wait to be in your position!

ploopypleepy · 23/04/2021 13:59

@MariaC03 thank you ! Have you had your first sample pot from sheffield ?? If your already back to normal your follow up will only be a couple of months so that's positive !!! Then you can start trying again!

MariaC03 · 23/04/2021 15:17

@ploopypleepy No I haven’t even heard from Sheffield yet 😩 My consultant said she had to send my referral again yesterday because I should have heard from them. On the plus having the sample pots don’t change what my levels are doing so hopefully by the time I do get them I’ll be zero 🤣
