Hospital snacks!

Hi - just getting my hospital bags together and thinking about what kind of snacks I'll need to last through labour 😂. My boyfriend is taking a bag with some food for him in as I know he can't leave the room, I'm just wondering what kind of things are useful to get me through? I have Lucozade, my water bottle, protein bars...anything else? Thanks in advance!

Bags of Haribo!

Frazzled13 · 19/11/2020 12:38

I had a bag of raisins. Easy to snack on, quite high in energy.

Jelly babies!

Keepingcomfy · 19/11/2020 13:15

I'm 36w and was thinking about my snack bag this morning. I thought about capri-suns, dried fruit, crisps (craving Skips through whole pregnancy), breakfast/protein bars, sweeties, maybe babybells

Without being vile, anything you don't mind bringing back up. I didn't stop throwing up in labour and the full bag of jelly babies was less pleasant on reverse 😭

cheesesandwhich · 19/11/2020 13:21

I was more worried about being sick during labour than anything 😂 I didn't really feel like eating at the time but I took water, lucozade, fruit, protein flapjacks and polos haha the tea and toast afterwards was divine though.

Caspianberg · 19/11/2020 13:37

Only used afterwards, but mini cartons of apple juice and cliff bars and shortbread were nice at 3am when awake feeding baby

I don't remember much about labour. But I do remember my husband feeding me fried mango and these dried pineapple ball things over the side of the birthing pool! They were great, sugar hit I needed without being too big/ strong in flavour

LikeTheFruit · 19/11/2020 13:42

That should be dried mango not fried 🤣🤣

Matilda1981 · 19/11/2020 13:48

Jelly babies and Maltesers 😂 and a decent sandwich or something! Take water bottles that have a sports cap as it’s really hard to drink out of a cup or normal bottle - I’ve had 4 kids and can’t remember why it’s so hard tho 😂😂perhaps because you’re lying in a funny position!

Ismellphantoms · 19/11/2020 13:55

I didn't take any snacks. I wouldn't have wanted them anyway.

PopsicleHustler · 19/11/2020 14:10

I'm 31 weeks and will have my snack bag ready by 36 weeks in case I go early as this is our 5th little one.

Packing it with plenty of Cadbury, juice cartons and.pringles.I love fresh fruit but hate dried fruit. So obviously xant being fresh fruit in as it could to bad in the bag unless we eat it first.

kidsareok · 19/11/2020 14:15

Thanks everyone!! Love the advice about packing things I don't mind bringing back up again 😂 I'll try and pack as plain stuff as possible! I'm a FTM so not sure what my appetite will be like at all but I'm prepping for this as if I'm prepping for a half marathon 😂 just incase. Thanks lovelies! X

Not necessarily during but afterwards I was craving salty stuff so Jerky, crisps. Anything with chocolate on the outside was awkward as maternity wards are hot, so very much a sticky mess but was fine with pains au chocolat and brioche.

My main need for snacks was during the night feeds as it's a very long time from ward dinner at 5.30 until breakfast if you're feeding all night and limited options to acquire more.

Would also bring some squash that you like if you don't like basic stuff... You might need to drink a lot to prove you can pee before you can escape.

ahhanotheryear · 19/11/2020 14:24

A bottle of diluted squash and a bottle of undiluted squash. I drank a lot during labour and they kept getting me to drink. I didnt eat anything
Jelly babies

I’ve packed a straw!!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/11/2020 14:30

I took crisps, minstrels, pasta pots that you just add boiling water too, sweets... Ate one pack of sweets and that was it. I wasn’t hungry and I didn’t want to rustle packets with a sleeping baby and another mum and baby the other side of the curtain.

I took a multipack of bottled water and drank 5 of them. I was so dehydrated after DD2 was born that I wasn’t allowed to go home after my 6 hour check. Took 5 bottles to produce the required amount of wee to be allowed to leave. Also, gas and air really dried my throat.

Kiki275 · 19/11/2020 16:35

I didn't touch any snacks during Labour but they were fab when recovering from an EMCS and doing midnight feeds etc. My go to are mini soreen loaves.x

LemonadeLocomotive · 19/11/2020 21:05

I ate nearly an entire pack of haribo the early hours after having my DD. PP was right, it’s a long time between meals- especially if you have a baby after the dinner time

sausagerole · 19/11/2020 21:10

I overstocked on snacks but was so glad I did as I was in for two nights and ate everything! Dried fruit (including prunes!), salted and unsalted nuts, nice chocolate biscuits, juice cartons, frozen water bottles, salted crackers
