Hey everyone I'm 8 weeks pregnant after a previous miscarriage I had. I'm feeling nauseous 24/7 and I'm really tired and weak. Sorry for the tmi but I wake up and either throw up or have diarrhea. I have a 2 year old already and although I was nauseous It was nothing a few snacks and a lie down couldn't handle. I'm quite worried that feeling this sick could be affecting the baby or it's growth? Im pretty much only eating cereal bars, toast and perhaps a jacket potato if I force myself, I'm taking pregnacare. Has anyone else been this sick in trimester one? I'm so tired and unwell all the time I can't think it's helping things and still a bit worried about having another miscarriage

I'm the same. It's not nice but the baby is basically a parasite and will take everything it needs from you - leaving you feeling crap. Plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration

Seeline · 19/11/2020 10:26

Yep - I Was nauseous 27/7, sick up to 10 times a day, even waking up at night to be sick. Ate very little until 16 weeks - mainly dry rice crispies. DS will be 19 yo in a couple of weeks. HAs been healthy for all those years.

Have you spoken to your GP - I would recommend seeing if they would prescribe some medication. I did for my second pg and the difference they made was unbelievable.

Seeline · 19/11/2020 10:27

OK it was 24/7 - but it certainly felt like 27/7 at the time Grin

HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 19/11/2020 10:42

Yes all pregnancies.
They need very little at this stage and like previous poster said, they'll just suck it from you.
I'd speak with the GP if it's getting too bad, there are medications that can help.

Good luck. Your baby will be fine x

I’ve had severe morning sickness and nausea this pregnancy - started at 8 weeks and only seems to be easing off now I’m 20 weeks, although if I do too much it hits like a ton of bricks, and I’m still very nauseous throughout the day.

A few tips:

  1. contact your GP and see if they can prescribe you anything. I got prescribed cyclizine. The side effects are horrible (super drowsy and headaches) but it stops the nausea enough so I can eat

  2. rest, rest, rest. Get help with your 2yo - nursery, partner stepping in if possible, create a bubble with a close family member who can come and watch the toddler. My DS is 3 and we have a bubble with my mum. She has him when I’m too sick and need to rest, or DH works downstairs and watches him (when he isn’t on calls, so not always possible). Go to bed as early as possible, get help with housework- you’re sick and if you were this ill minus pregnancy, you wouldn’t be expected to do it all! My mum does most of our clothes washing and drying now, and comes over once a week to do a proper clean of the house.

  3. eat very little and often - I found not overloading my tummy helped to keep food in

My DH describes me as “having one button battery worth of energy, rather than a 12v car battery” So when I go pale, get really sick etc he says “go to bed your button battery is running out!”

I really hope you have a good support network to get some help through this stage of pregnancy x

I often felt like baby was a parasite literally sucking the life from me 🙈

cygnet2 · 19/11/2020 11:12

Thank you all SO much for the lovely words of support I really appreciate it, I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow perhaps she could give me some medicine

@MrsG30 thanks so much for the tips my brother is in my bubble as he lives alone so perhaps he could come and help

@Seeline thank you glad to hear your son is totally fine! I just wonder how anything can enjoy growing when I'm feeling so horrendous

Thanks everyone x

I was the same OP until around 20 weeks. I remember going to my 12 week scan and having to carry a carrier bag from the car park to the hospital in case I was sick on the way! It was horrendous. I ended up being signed off work for 8 weeks. I did get anti-sickness medication from the doctor which helped somewhat so do please ask if you’re struggling. I mostly ate ‘brat’ food for the first 20 weeks- dry toast, plain pasta, crackers etc. DD is 15 months now and as fit as a fiddle!

Congratulations and good luck!

MeadowHay · 19/11/2020 11:47

Eurgh sympathies. I had HG with my DD, I was vomiting up to 15 times a day and was on a big bunch of medication, ondansetron finally helped me a bit but I couldn't move or it would set it off again, it was like having horrific travel sickness! I didn't leave the house other than for healthcare appointments for about 3 months it was awful. TTC no 2 now with a 2.5 yr old and terrified it will happen again.

I would call the GP asap as there's evidence that earlier intervention with bad sickness has better outcomes (for yourself with sickness I mean - your baby will be fine) look up the Pregnancy Sickness Support charity.

MrsG30 · 19/11/2020 11:50

Good luck OP, I really hope it doesn’t last long for you x

PippinStar · 19/11/2020 12:09

Yup, I had hyperemesis both pregnancies, throwing up 10 times a day and nausesous round the clock. In the second pregnancy the vomiting only stopped 12 hours after baby was born.

Both babies perfectly healthy (although they have reflux which may be due to them being a little small / 37 weekers but it may be totally unrelated - just one of those things we’ll never know).

Your doctor can give you medication if you are really struggling. Hopefully your sickness will go by 14 weeks!

MimiDaisy11 · 19/11/2020 12:29

Obviously, statistics don't predict individual cases but there have been a few studies which show morning sickness lowers the risk of miscarriage. So you shouldn't worry that morning sickness is bad for the baby: www.verywellfamily.com/does-having-morning-sickness-mean-i-wont-miscarry-2371534

cygnet2 · 19/11/2020 18:17

Thank you all so much I'm going to ask the midwife tomorrow about the medication I ended up crying to my husband today because I'm just so drained so I really hope that will help

@MimiDaisy11 thanks for that I had no idea but will have a read , sounds reassuring 😊

I had to knock my pregnancy vitamin on the head when my nausea got too prolonged as that was making it worse.
I tried switching to just folic acid and vitamin d and that bought me a few hours respite in the mornings before the nausea hit in the afternoon. When I was taking the full vitamin I felt poorly all day and a few people suggested the vitamin could be making it worse so figured I'd try without it.

MedusasBadHairDay · 20/11/2020 11:49

I had severe HG in both pregnancies, barely ate anything, both kids were born healthy. The first pregnancy the only thing I could stomach (if anything) for the bulk of the 9 months was flat lemonade and salt and vinegar crisps, hardly a balanced diet. You wouldn't know it at all now looking at my kids.

cygnet2 · 21/11/2020 12:04

Just wanted to say thank you all for your advice I requested sickness medicine from the GP I got it this morning took one tablet and could each brunch just now. I'm so disproportionately happy to be able to eat without feeling sick I really hope the tablets carry on working THANK YOU Flowers
