Anyone else got a planned c section coming up?

Hi everyone. I'm pregnant with MCDA twin girls and they're coming by c section on Monday when I'll be 34 weeks exactly (due to a couple of complications we've known about all along). I'm beginning to feel more and more anxious as the days draw nearer. Anyone else in the same boat?!

Yes very anxious 😬 having a section next week due to babies position. Just trying to avoid thinking about it too much and take it all one step at a time

Please can I reassure you that a planned c section is usually a really good experience for most women, very different from an emergency. My experiences have been very good. The medical staff are calm and happy and are often able to accommodate any particular wishes you have re the birth. It is not painful and for many women it is a lovely birth experience. I've had three sections now.

I’d echo what @Somethingsnappy said. ELCS are so much calmer and recovery is normally better than an EMCS I’d suspect as you’ve not gone through the natural labour stage.

Take peppermint oil tablets for the gas pain (honestly that was the worst part of it for me), keep on top of pain meds and try to walk a few steps every so often (seizing up will make the pain worse)

Thank you for the reassurance @Somethingsnappy @Willow4987. I've got peppermint tea bags - will that do the same thing?

Good luck to you @CBhope fingers crossed it goes well for us both!

I had two planned c sections for medical reasons and (dare I say it), they were lovely experiences, very calm and I enjoyed both. The epidural was a lot easier than I expected, a perfectly normal sized needle unlike the large needle stories I'd heard.

The one thing I'd say is not to be put off by the number of people present, it seemed like a bit of a crowd to me but they all had their roles.

Do you need to take jewellery off for a planned c section?

My info from the hospital says no nail polish or lipstick but nothing about jewellery - however previous operations i have had, everything had to come out?

MilsCookie · 19/11/2020 20:23

👋 @Whiffle77!!! That's a good qu, I was wondering that too!! 🤔

Thank you for the reassurance @JMG1234 😊 really helps to hear other people's stories.

I've got an ELCS booked for December with DCDA twins but it's subject to change due to some growth concerns. Nervous already I hate to think what I'll be like as it gets nearer the dateBlush

Yes, please don't be scared of the procedure. I had a planned cesarean with my first as he was transverse and didn't want to be turned.

Lovely experience, I asked for the private room in the hospital and it was free.

The recovery after took a while and depending on what the restrictions are, I would probably stay for two nights rather than one.
