If you are having a baby with the NHS do not assume that there will be anyone around to be interested in your Bishop's Score or whatever.

Go in. Be induced. Come home with a live baby. End of.

I was induced at 34.5 weeks due to various problems.
Nothing happened for about 3 hours, then BANG the contractions started. Not slowly but really really painful. Then they went on like that irregularly for hours and hours. they wouldnt give me another prostin as i was contracting so frequently, but no cervix changes..

This got worse and worse, still no changes, until middle of night. then it all stopped. about 4 am my waters went. contractions came back VERY differently. totally different pain. Horrible and bloody painful still but just different and bareable. they reckoned i'd gone into a 'natural' labour. the contractions looked different on the ctg trace. ANYWAY, still not dilating enough at 7am but not coping with pain. Had epidural when was 3 cm.
10 am was 'officially' in active labour ( WTF were all those other hours of agony then??? lol)
12 o;clock, 7cm
13:15 started pushing
13.27 had my baby girl!
Enjoyed every second of the pushing, could feel it all and really enjoyed giving birth. it hurt like hell, but was SUCH a relief from all that pain!

I cant wait to do it agin... yes i know, im mad.. not a sadist but mad!

sorry not all positive for you, but it was my experience of induction. GOOD LUCK!!! you will get through it and before you know i, be snuffling that lovely baby hair and soft pink skin.... hmmm, i'm jealous! must wait at least 2 years though

went in late afternoon, pessary inserted around 6pm, sat in a rocking chair til about 10pm... really great took mind off the contractions, dd was born about 4am - midwife had t break me waters.

I was tucked up in bed in the ward by 6 am with new dd.

No probs you'll be fine!!!!!

Hi,

I was induced with 2nd Ds and after reading this thread I have been quite lucky.
I was hauled into hosp the night before induction and they set me off (gel pessary)at 8 am, pains started within half an hour and all in back, by 10am I was walking round hospital in between contractions because I found it impossible to sit down.
I was taken to delivery room at noon and had him by 2.30pm. Did ask for epidural but was too far gone by the time they had found me a spare room to deliver!!
Really hope it all goes well for you tommoro and that the induction works first time. Try to keep moving around, im sure it helps. Good luck and let us know how it went. Do you know what you are having??

Good luck with today! Hope all goes smoothly.

FWIW, probably far too late for you.. I had a pessary at 4pm, examined at 10pm and they decided not to bother with the second pessary as I was having decent contractions - very manageable though painwise. Waters broke at 1am and contractions were hard and fast after that but as I was 10cm by 4am and ds was born at 6.30am I didn't have too long to go.

I'd rather have gone into labour naturally obviously but it was a much better experience than I had expected. So much so that dh was at home asleep for most of my labour as I'd not expected to have to call him back...he only made it to the hospital for the last 3 hours.

Best of luck to you!
I was induced with first baby 11 months ago, unfortunately when the nurse inserted the first pessary she wasn't very gentle and it wasn't until I pretty much screamed in her face that she asked if that 'felt a little uncomfortable'-damn right!!
Next pessary 12 hours later much better with gas and air!
Make sure you let them know how your feeling.
Hope all goes well

I was induced at 39+6 weeks and labour lasted for just under 24 hours. The pessary was put in place at 10pm and by 7am the following morning I was in discomfort but still not progressing as much as they wanted so I was put on an oxytocin drip and an hour after that was started I asked for gas and air and then an epidural and my waters were broken by the midwife at about 10am. DS was born at 9.48pm and I can honestly say it was the best day of my life and I would do it all again!!

Good luck, chuck!!
