Anterior placenta but I think I feel movements at 16w?

Am I imagining this or have any other women with an anterior placenta felt early movements at 16weeks?

Feels like a very slight fluttering or pushing. Definitely not my digestion. But very tiny and subtle so I'm wondering if it's wishful thinking and I'm kidding myself.

Hey OP, I too have anterior placenta and starting feeling flutters at 16 weeks. Enjoy them getting stronger - it's a lovely feeling Smile

I have an anterior placenta and felt movements at 17 weeks, and even saw movements at 19 weeks, so I'd say it's very possible. It's my first, too, so even more surprising, but there we are.

Doughnut100 · 16/11/2020 19:12

@CoalCraft it's my first too so it's all new to me!

@BL89 thank you I am really enjoying it especially now I know I'm not going mad!

I had an anterior placenta and felt first flutterings at about 17 weeks. At the time I couldn't decide if they were movements or just gas as it was my first, but as they got stronger I knew!

How do you know if you have an anterior placenta? I’m 16 weeks today and no one mentioned it at my 12 week scan, or is it something you find out later on?

Doughnut100 · 17/11/2020 08:10

@Fruitloops34 they didn't mention it at my NHS scans but I have had a couple of private scans where they told me it was anterior.

@Doughnut100 Thanks! I’ve got a private gender scan a week today so I’ll make sure to ask if they know when I’m there.

FolkSongSweet · 17/11/2020 08:14

Yep I had an anterior placenta this time (second baby) and felt movements from about 15 weeks, whereas it was 18 weeks with my first baby where placenta was posterior. My placenta was very high so I could feel the movements below it. It continued to move up during the pregnancy so by the time I gave birth it was at the very top of the uterus and technically “fundal” rather than anterior.

Congratulations!!! I've got an anterior placenta (now 22/weeks) and started to feel flutters at 16 weeks. No feeling kicks and a fair bit of movement but all low down. Also found out mine is anterior through a private scan rather than NHS but confirmed at 20 week scan.

Doughnut100 · 17/11/2020 10:38

@Fruitloops34 I just had a gender scan at window to the womb and it was so lovely, the sonographer was great and genuinely excited with us. I hope yours is as nice. (She's a girl !!! ♥️)

@FolkSongSweet ah maybe that's why I can feel it - she did say my placenta was anterior and at the top so I guess it's anterior/fundal.

The sonographer mentioned it at my 12 week scan, and it was on the scan sheet they put in my green notes.

Doughnut100 · 01/12/2020 18:50

Update: I had my anomaly scan yesterday at 18w3d and my placenta is indeed anterior but actually low-lying, not fundal.

I am definitely feeling my little girl jiggling around in there, sometimes now I can feel her from the outside so I reckon it will only be another week until my partner can feel her kicks.

Conclusion: I'm not mad, some women can feel their baby move quite early even if they have an anterior placenta and if it's low lying! ♥️

I agree OP. I had an anterior placenta last time and was feeling movements around 14 wks - it was 3rd baby though. I’m pretty sure I’m feeling them now at 13 wks with baby 4 although placenta is high anterior this time.

Congratulations Flowers
