Fragmin

Has anyone given birth whilst on fragmin?

My daughter was taking 10 days worth of injections as she tested positive for COVID recently. (Precaution against blood clots.)

She's had about 7.

She was at hospital yesterday because she'd been having pains/contractions all the previous night. They recorded four in half an hour on the monitor. She was sent home: they said that they didn't know why she was getting pains.

A swab sample concluded that she had a very low chance of labour in the next two weeks.

She went to a midwife appointment this morning (coincidence) - a booked appointment that she had missed/rearranged whilst she was in isolation due to covid.

She's just been taken by ambulance to hospital after having pains every 10 min throughout the second consecutive night.

All I know, from a text message that didn't make sense, is that the head is in the birth canal?

I'm at my wits end - she had retained placenta with her previous two births.

I'm so cross that she didn't get the appropriate care yesterday.

Oh - she's almost 34 weeks.

Just extremely worried about the blood thinners/potential blood loss.

Any experiences?

@lockdownconfused

The fragment wouldn't be an issue I've taken throughout my pregnancies and for 6 week post partum. I was fine it's safe and unlikely to lead to excessive blood loss. It also wouldn't have contributed to her early labour.
I didn't say that the fragmin caused a premature birth.

When she was prescribed this it was because she'd tested positive for covid during the third trimester. It was 10 injections and she was told it would have cleared her system by the time she gave birth.

The point is that she was dismissed out of hand when she said that she thought she was in labour. In fact she was in labour and shouldn't have been sent home as she was 32 wks.

She was told to continue with the fragmin. The following day they tried unsuccessfully to delay her labour because fragmin was in her system and ideally they needed at least another 12 hrs for it to clear. She was told this.

The point is they had plenty of chance to stop the contractions the day before and allow her baby a little more 'cooking' time.

She needed several blood transfusions afterwards.

Just found out this evening that another lady who attended triage the same day/time as my daughter and who also was sent home unduly ended up having an emergency caesarean under general anaesthetic the following day because of problems with the placenta. The lady was saying that she'd been told if she'd have been left another day both their lives would have been at risk. My daughter only met her today as she's been too poorly to visit her baby in special care until today.

So the person in charge of triage that day sent two women home when they shouldn't have gone home.

That needs investigation - the nurses in special care have urged both my daughter and the other lady to push for this.

Both my daughter and the other lady remember seeing each other in triage on 15th November. They have swapped contact details and intend to keep in touch with each other.

The point is women aren't being listened to and the consequences could be dire.
