I am 6 weeks pregnant. I am a driving instructor. I am unable to work due to lockdown, however when lockdown is completed I am unsure whether to return.
What would you do if you were in my position?

What are your options?

Work and get paid- wear a mask and open windows

Find a different more safe job

Not work- what would you do for money?

Go off in sick leave?

I have another side job but less income.
My expenses for the business I'll still need to pay for.

Could you up your hours at the other side job so that becomes your main job? Is that job more ‘covid secure’?

1981juan · 15/11/2020 18:26

It is working from home but it depends on how busy they are

If it wasn't for covid then I would have liked to continue to do my job upto the latest that I can.

Disregard the job side of it. Would you continue to do the job if you were in my position ? Covid and pregnancy?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and work up close with people, but wear a mask when we're indoors. I'm not worried about catching COVID but I'm also fit and healthy and have no underlying health conditions.

I would continue if I were you, unless you feel you're at risk because of your health otherwise.

OverTheRainbow88 · 15/11/2020 18:32

Ummmm do all your students wear masks and can you keep the windows open?
Are you generally healthy or in the at risk group for other health issues?

I probably would until third trimester if I could keep windows open, masks and generally healthy

I was pregnant during covid.. the guidelines then stated it was safe to work until 28 weeks and then working from home was recommended. I was lucky in that I could WFH from March when everyone else returned to work I remained WFH as I was 28 weeks. I don't know what they suggest now.

I think if it was me, I'd work up to 28 weeks and then start mat leave. Mask on, windows open. All depends how confident you feel though.

Clairey844 · 15/11/2020 18:50

I second what others say about wearing a mask, keeping windows open etc. For added peace of mind could you take your client's temperature before they get in the car like they do in restaurants etc?

1981juan · 15/11/2020 19:50

I have got all my students to wear a mask and have always kept the windows open, however, with it getting colder, it is extremely cold in the car and wet when it's raining.

I want to continue with the job but I' m afraid of covid, this may be my last chance of a child. I don't have any other children, I'll be 40 if this pregnancy all goes well, I had a loss earlier on this year at the beginning of the pandemic.

Hence, all my worries.

Totally understandable to worry; maybe call
Your GP and ask what they think? Or wait the tip you have your booking in appointment with a MW and ask them?

Yeah, thanks. I'm going to ask for their advice.

I was working with the public, travelling on public transport until I was over 36 weeks pregnant.
There's been no evidence that Covid adversely affects pregnant women or their babies as long as there are no other health conditions.
I'm sorry for your previous loss, I don't blame you for being anxious Thanks

How old is your baby now?

Covid is no more dangerous for pregnant women than for anyone else in the same age and health group. Personally I would keep working, taking every sensible precaution. My company sent me to work from home one I reached the third trimester as an (imo unnecessary) precaution, but you could at least work up t till then (and by then, maybe, hopefully, there'll be vaccines out and life will be a little bit more normal).

meeeeh · 27/11/2020 12:37

I've read lots of studies saying there is an increased risk to pregnant women. I think the government are saying there isn't as they want more people back in work. I wouldn't want to be working with the public or getting public transport in my third trimester personally
