Giving birth after hip replacement

I had a hip replacement 5 years ago due to hip dysplasia. Prior to the replacement, I had limited mobility in the hip and I remember my consultant saying I would unlikely be able to have a vaginal birth due to the mobility. Post replacement mobility is better but I remember something about if I were to have a vaginal birth not being able to get an epidural as I will need to be able to feel pain to make sure I can recognise if it dislocates.
Sadly, at the time I was no way near ready to start a family so it went in one ear and out the other (very short sighted of me but I was really just focussed on being able to walk properly again!)

Not that there is anything against having a CS if I need to but I am now TTC and interested in setting my expectations (although 100% appreciate that these go out of the water in labour anyway as things very often don't go to plan!).

If anyone has given birth after a hip replacement, I would be really interested to hear what your experience was. There isn't a huge amount online as a replacement in people of child bearing age doesn't seem to be very common!

When I do finally manage to conceive, I will obviously mention to my midwife too, this is really just advance expectation setting ☺️

Are you able to check with your consultant whether you are able to have a pregnancy?
I only ask because I went to my booking in appt last week and I had a previous neck fracture on my record (it's on there by mistake) and the midwife said she had been concerned to see it as your bones move a lot in pregnancy and it might not have been viable to have a pregnancy with a previous spinal injury.
Your hip bones obviously move a lot in pregnancy too, so could be worth checking with a.medical professional first
