Very Low Papp-a

Good morning ladies,

I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same and could shed some light on this.

I’m 14 weeks, and so far everything has been perfect. All my blood results have been good and scans/baby measuring to be perfect. However, yesterday I had a routine check up with a consultant. She joked at first and said I’m not sure why I’m seeing you as everything seems to be perfect. She then asked to see my Downs/Edwards syndrome results, which thankfully all were low risk. However she then picked up on something I didn’t even know about. She said did anyone call you about the Papp-a result or follow this up. I instantly was concerned as I thought the letter was fine and it indicated low risk for everything, how was I meant to know what a good/low Papp-a result was. She explained that the average is 0.4mom and I was measuring at 0.22mom. I said to her straight away is this ok. She didn’t seem concerned and just said this could be because of high blood pressure which I don’t have, and could just cause low baby weight and being induced early or emergency c-section and that was that. She didn’t seem concerned at all and just gave me 2-3 ultrasounds in the third trimester.

Of course I was concerned straight away and as she didn’t really go in to much with me about this I done the worst thing and Googled it to be horrified by what this could mean.

I have seen that people who have this has been prescribed aspirin but the consultant didn’t mention anything about this.

Basically I’m worried! And wondered if anyone could help with some advice or their story on this.

I will also be phoning the midwife department today as I’m so concerned. This is my first baby and now I feel like I will not be enjoying this pregnancy at all! 😒

Hi. I have low papp-a with my current pregnancy. (30 weeks )
Like you I panicked like crazy when I was told. I am now on what my MW team call a low papp-a 'pathway ' which means I take 75mg if aspirin daily and have extra growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. My 28 week scan showed baby was average weight so so far so good.

Definitely speak to your mw and ask them what their plan is for low papp-a pregnancy.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy x

Hey @Grumpy19,

Thanks so much for the reassurance. I’ve just spoke to a midwife and she said I didn’t need to be on Aspirin as my blood pressure is normal at the moment. She also booked me in to see a midwife for 2 weeks time so I can discuss this with her too.

Thanks so much for letting me know your experience so far, glad all is going well for you!

Can I ask, do you know what your reading was for Papp-a?
X

Mine was 0.36. My blood pressure has been fine but they said the aspirin is a precaution.
