19 weeks and I haven't felt the baby move for hours

I'm feeling really freaked out. I started feeling the baby move a week or so ago. Today I've felt nothing. I've had a really busy day at work and been on my feet a lot. But I've been sitting down for a while and still nothing.

I'll call the midwife tomorrow. I've got my 20 week scan next week.

Am I right to be worried?

I hadn’t felt it all until about 22 weeks so I wouldn’t be too worried. Have a really cold drink, sit quietly and then ring the midwife if no change.

LunchBoxPolice · 12/11/2020 21:17

My midwife told me to drink a pint of cold water and lie on my left side for an hour quietly. You probably just haven’t noticed the movements because you’ve been busy all day.

BertieBotts · 12/11/2020 21:18

The problem is at this stage they have loads of room to move, so sometimes you can feel their movements and then sometimes they move into another bit of womb and you can't any more. After 24 weeks they want you to pay attention to it and if movements change at all let them know ASAP.

But that said if you are concerned, call now, not tomorrow.

Greenhairbrush · 12/11/2020 21:18

You should always get checked out if you’re concerned, however at this stage of pregnancy baby is still so tiny. It depends on many factors like placenta placement as to whether you’ll feel kicks. And being so small they often float around in there and maybe kicking towards your back.

Oneandabean · 12/11/2020 21:42

Some people don’t feel movements until 24 weeks and the baby doesn’t get into a set pattern until 28 weeks. At 19 weeks there’s loads of room for baby to move around yet, and there will be times you don’t feel baby for a bit. However if you are ever worried please ring midwives and don’t leave it until morning. It’s better to be reassured than worry about it

Thanks very much for all your comments, really helpful. I think I might have felt a little bit since I wrote the post, but it's hard to tell. Whereras there has been decisive movements on previous days.

I really didn't want to bother a midwife this evening. I'll call the community midwife team tomorrow. If I have had a mmc, there's nothing they can do. Not long to wait for the scan now.

I am 19 weeks too but only recently started to feel things thta might be movements but I am not sure. Come to think of it I haven't really felt any today either. I know that from 24 weeks they like you to monitor a bit, but I think they said that before that if you feel some and then don't feel them for a while and it's on and off that is ok, probably because as PP said there is more room so whether you'd feel them depends on position. I could be remembering wrong though.

Hope all is fine xx

Inkpaperstars · 12/11/2020 23:47

Btw OP I was told if need any advice 'out of hours' call the Maternity assessment unit at the hospital which is 24 hours and midwives there can advise.

NaturesEnd · 12/11/2020 23:50

You don't feel reliable movement until much later. Try not to worry.

JellyBellySmith · 14/11/2020 10:27

I'm pregnant with my second - 19 weeks - and am barely feeling any movement. Try not to worry, as others have said, it's only in a month or so that you really need to start being mindful of it. In general, if you are busy, you obviously wouldn't notice movements that are this subtle anyway. I'm looking forward to 25+ weeks when I can see them moving around again haha

peachypetite · 14/11/2020 10:29

I really wouldn't worry. The baby is still so small at 19 weeks and has loads of room to move. It's far too early for an established pattern.

Lottie917 · 14/11/2020 16:57

I only just started feeling movement at 18 weeks and I would have days in a row where I didn't feel anything (I also have an anterior placenta which can buffer movements).

My baby didn't form a solid pattern of movement until around 26/27 weeks but I remember feeling a bit anxious if I hadn't noticed movement for a day or so.

I think everything will be okay for you, however you should always go with your gut instinct. If you feel that the right thing to do is raise it with a midwife, then please do. Don't worry about wasting their time as this is what they are here for Smile

Silverstripe · 14/11/2020 18:31

At this stage it’s normal for there not to be a pattern - the baby is still teeny, and can easily move around without kicking you. I hadn’t felt any movement at all at 19 weeks. BUT, you are never wrong for seeking reassurance when worried about movement, and there is no harm in calling your midwife for comfort.

In the meantime, try all the usual tricks - cold glass of water, do some jumping jacks, lie on your left side etc. Sometimes that’s enough to get them going.

RayOfSunshine2013 · 14/11/2020 18:35

I had the same at 19 weeks, had a good two weeks of feeling movements then nothing for 3/4 days.. called the midwife and she basically said come in if you really want to for reassurance but all they would do is listen to heartbeat with a Doppler. I didn’t bother going as it isn’t even viable until 24 weeks. However if reassurance would make you feel better, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.

AntiHop · 15/11/2020 12:28

Thanks very much everyone.

I didn't call the midwife in the end. I felt bad about bothering them in the evening when as pp say, at 19 weeks it is too early to have regular kicking. I was planning to call the community midwife on friday morning, but I was so busy at work that I didn't have time. By Friday afternoon I felt movement again. And I've been feeling movement over this weekend.

Thank you all for your reassurance, it's been really helpful.

I'm 19 weeks and haven't felt any movement at all! I wasn't worried but now I am! First time mum so assuming it will start later. Bump measuring small so have only started showing the last week so assuming my stomach muscles are just a bit tighter?

reimah · 17/11/2020 14:06

Hi there

I’ve had a lot of movement last week, but nothing in the last couple of weeks.
At 19 weeks I didn’t expect to feel anything, but the ‘rolling’ sensation isn’t coming back and I’m really worried 🤧
