Hi,

I'll try not to ramble..

I'm 11 weeks on Saturday and today have had quite bright red bleeding. I had some this morning when wiping after going to the loo, and had some more just now. It seems to be more mixed with discharge than just blood (like a period would be) but I can't stop worrying.

For context, I've had quite a lot of 'spotting' which has worried me but I've had a private scan and also a scan at EPU last weekend and everything was fine and they couldn't find a reason for it. However previously it's always been brown / dark red but today it's much brighter red.

Also, and sorry for TMI, but it always seems to be after a bowel movement which I have read can happen with some women. This has been the case again today.

Anyone else had similar and all been okay?! I'm wondering whether to ring the EPU again in the morning but last weekend they did say it could happen again, so not sure if they'll feel like I'm being dramatic 😩 x

Not myself but my sister had bleeding around 11 weeks. She had a scan and everything was fine but did keep on spotting for the next few weeks.

@candle18 thanks so much for sharing! I'll take any bit of hope ☺️

I'm in the same boat 11 weeks on Sunday. I have been bleeding for 3 days now bright red. I have a scan tomorrow to check everything. I've read numerous stories the last few days ranging from perfectly fine to the worst. So I would suggest calling them again and asking for another scan again. Its your body and your baby and who cares if a stranger thinks you're being dramatic you'll probably never meet them again. So bug away thats what I did and will continue to do until I know whats happening. Good luck hope everything works out.

KateColx · 12/11/2020 21:40

@Lostmam86 good luck with your scan!!! Fingers crossed all is okay. Is this your first scan? I know me too, I keep telling myself to stop looking but then I google again. Yeah you're completely right, I'll ring in the morning x

Good luck, hope everything is all fine. Just FYI, my very close cousin was bleeding bright red every month until the end of her pregnancy and baby is now super healthy and fine, he’s now almost 9 months old :) the doctors never found the cause for her monthly bleeding. It was definitely less heavy than a regular period, but more than just spotting too. No one could explain it! Sending you lots of good energy, you will be ok xx

purplerobin · 12/11/2020 21:50

I was 14 weeks a few weeks ago and started bleeding. It was just like a period. There were also some clots. I had to wait 4 days for a scan at EPU which were the 4 longest days ever.
However, everything was absolutely fine.
Definitely call the EPU for advice. It's what they are there for. But remember that bleeding doesn't always mean bad news. A lot of the time it's just the body getting a bit confused. Best of luck OP x

I did, and after 3mcs so I was fraught.

It was a cervical ectropion (erosion of cervix), exacerbated by baby aspirin, Clexane and progesterone most probably.

Occasional bleeding between weeks 5-12, and a bit again at week 26 or so for good measure.

It never got very heavy though.

Bowel movements and exertion made it worse. TMI but we were on a sex ban too ffs.

It was a very nervous time, given my history, but it settled down in the end and baby is here now.

SkaterGrrrrl · 12/11/2020 22:07

I had this with both my pregnancies - loads and loads of bleeding.

DC1, loads of bleeding, my GP told me I'd lost the baby. Went to hospital for what I thought would be D&C and they did a vaginal ultrasound and found a strong heartbeat.

DC2, a ridiculous amount of bleeding, it was pouring out of me. Went straight in and was scanned, the sound of the heartbeat made DH and I weep.

DC are now 7 and 9 and healthy, cheerful, noisy children.

There's hope.

KateColx · 12/11/2020 22:07

@brunette337 thanks so much for your message, and so pleased everything worked out well for your cousin 🥰 x

@purplerobin oh god how scary for you! And a 4 day wait too 😩 pleased everything was okay for you though! I'm definitely going to give them a ring in the morning and see what they say. Thank you x

@LividLaughLurve when i first mentioned my spotting to the midwife she actually said that it might be that I have a sensitive cervix so maybe it's something similar? So pleased baby is here safe and well now after your history and all of the worry 🥰 x

@SkaterGrrrrl ah I'm pleased it all turned out well for you. thank you for sharing, I just think you never hear about these kind of stories in 'real life', so it's easy to assume the worst. Appreciate nothing is guaranteed for me, but nice to know that it could all be perfectly normal. Thank you x

As scary as it is, bleeding often doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong. I had spotting throughout the first trimester then a haemorrhage at 12 weeks (like a whole period worth of blood in about 5 mins!). They called it a subchorionic haemorrhage. Same thing happened to a family friend a few months later. In both cases our babies were completely unaffected and are now healthy toddlers.

So don’t despair, but call the EPU so they can check it out.

Hope you get some reassuring news.

KateColx · 12/11/2020 22:10

@SkaterGrrrrl and the bit about DC2 heartbeat made me well up, I'm too emotional for this 😂😩

KateColx · 12/11/2020 22:11

@YakkityYakYakYak gosh a haemorrhage must have been terrifying! Thank you for sharing, I'll definitely be giving them a call first thing x

I had spotting throughout the first trimester and heavier bleeds at 8 weeks, 9 weeks then a really heavy one out of the blue at 11.5 weeks. It was terrifying but no real explanation could be found. 34 weeks tomorrow and baby is currently head butting my ribs! All the very best to you.

KateColx · 13/11/2020 07:58

@penguin423 ah I can't wait until I can feel them and know everything is okay. So glad it all worked out okay for you x

@KateColx hope you are doing OK Smile

KateColx · 14/11/2020 20:17

@penguin423 I am thank you ☺️ no more bleeds since, just a tiny bit of spotting so keeping everything crossed that all is okay. Thank you for checking in ☺️ x

calimommy · 14/11/2020 20:34

@Lostmam86 how did your scan go? I hope everything is ok.

@KateColx you could have a SCH sub chorionic haematoma, they are quite common and cause significant bleeding. I had one in of my pregnancies and although mine became too heavy and the pregnancy was lost, many women have them without any problems at all. Or it may not be a SCH at all. Best of luck .

Lostmam86 · 14/11/2020 21:16

@calimommy unfortunately it wasn't good news for me. Stopped growing at 5-6 weeks.

calimommy · 14/11/2020 21:29

@Lostmam86 I'm terribly sorry. I've had my share of losses. It's always devastating. Time helps. X

KateColx · 14/11/2020 21:35

@Lostmam86 oh no I'm so sorry 😔 x

I had a bleed at 11 weeks with ds1 and went to get checked. Baby was fine, cervix was closed. They said that it maybe just some burst blood vessels near there but reassured me there was nothing to worry about.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 15/11/2020 06:14

Yes. In both pregnancies. All turned out completely fine
