Am I right to go to the triage? (Woken up swollen and headache)

Hello ladies Smile

I just want some reassurance that I am not wasting MWs time as the MW on the phone said “this ward is for emergencies so you might be in for a long wait”.

I am currently 35 weeks and woken up with swollen hands and feet (my rings fitted yesterday but now they don’t), I’ve had a lingering headache for the past few days with dizzy spells and I haven’t felt generally well the past week. My morning sickness also came back at 32 weeks Sad.

My community MW told me to call the 24 hour triage if I have any problems, am I right to go in and get my BP etc checked?

I also forgot to say, I’ve noticed the past few days no matter how much water I drink (I aim for 2-3 litres) I can only wee small amounts and it is never clear like it used to be....

Any reassurance would be great, I am due to go in later afternoon. Forgot to say this is my first pregnancy xx

Definitely go in. Even if they say it is nothing, it is better to put your mind at ease especially as the headaches/swelling can be signs of preeclampsia.

Better safe than sorry!

Jessx90 · 12/11/2020 12:25

This is what I thought, but the MW didn’t seem overly concerned I felt it was more me pushing to go in.... hopefully the same MW will no longer be on shift haha Smile

Ignore the midwife. At 35 weeks I wouldn’t be happy with sudden swelling. Better to put your mind at rest.

Cobbsgirl92 · 12/11/2020 16:16

I would be pushing to go in too, definitely think
It’s the right thing!
The few times I’ve called triage I get the feeling they are trying to delay or prevent women going in unless it’s really necessary and can seem/feel harsh when they aren’t as worried as you are.
I believe in trusting your instincts so do what you feel is best.
Good luck, I’m sure everything is fine Smile

Go in.

Somethingsnappy · 12/11/2020 19:13

Oh yes, please do get checked put with those symptoms, OP. Hopefully all will be fine, but you do need to rule out pre-eclampsia....or get the treatment you need if that is a possibility.

Harmarsuperstar · 12/11/2020 19:14

Definitely go in

ChestnutSquash · 12/11/2020 19:15

Oh my goodness. Yes, you need to be seen urgently.

Somethingsnappy · 12/11/2020 19:15

P.s. Actually, I find it concerning that the midwife tried to dismiss those symptoms, especially the sudden onset. The usual response is much better to be safe than sorry.

FelicityPike · 12/11/2020 19:17

Absolutely go in and take your overnight bag with you.
Good luck.

MsAnnFrope · 12/11/2020 19:17

I’m hoping by now you have gone in but if not GO! I’d be concerned about pre eclampsia

hedgehogger1 · 12/11/2020 19:19

I contacted midwife with a headache at about the same point and went in to be checked. Blood pressure was up and liver and kidney enzymes were out of whack. Had to go in for monitoring and bloods every three days until they just induced me. Mw should be encouraging you in

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 12/11/2020 19:22

You have done the right thing going in to get checked OP. Hope all goes well

Grumpy19 · 12/11/2020 19:38

Hi. You definitely should be going/have gone in. Hope you are feeling better OP. X
