I dont want to show the flesh of my bump but I like to show the shape of my bump so i dont want tent shaped tops, I'd like fitted ones.
I'd love it if the maternity clothes could all shrink back after use so that the clothes that i put on now that i wore while pregnant with No1 will fit me this early in the pregnany (half way) rather than have been stretched to 9months size first time round and therefore now being too big. Does that make sense?

and a coat? I will need a coat for the winter for sure. MY old Peter Storm jacket will probably stretch enough even for the end of the pregnanay but what about going out when i'm dressed a bit too smart for the old rain jacket, then I need somehting nice and smart to wear.

Hi. I'm finding it hard to get decent casual trousers that will fit - I'm short - 5ft2 so need short trousers too. I work outside and it would be good to find tough cotton trousers for this type of work, they would also be useful for gardening, dog walking etc. can't find any like this for maternity wear except jeans which are horribly uncomfortable when wet. I've found it easier to find smart clothes as skirts are easier to find to fit. Have seen a few nice tops too, I think its nice to cover your flesh but with clothes that fit on your bump.

Hi,

I'm 5ft10 and when I was pregnant I found it really hard to find long tops. Ok, I find it hard now to find long tops but certainly didnt want my tummy showing when I was 7 months pregnant.

SoupDragon · 21/10/2004 17:52

Trousers for long legs! Short people can just take up the hem

misdee · 21/10/2004 18:29

a decently priced winter coat definatly!!

seems a shame that if you get a nice practical winter coat u cant wear it the folooeing year unless your pregnant again. (my coats have a 2 winter staying oeriod on average, b4 i get fed up with them)

vict17 · 21/10/2004 19:27

I 3rd the winter coat idea! I was pregnant last winter and felt (and looked) a right buffoon squeezed into my usual winter coat!

gingernut · 21/10/2004 20:10

You can take up the hem Soupy, but that leaves the bit that was designed to go round your calves around your ankles, IYSWIM. Not very glam. So, trousers in several lengths would be great (including something less than 30" inside leg for us shorties).

I hate feeling squeezed across the bump, so anything with vicious elastic is out (for some reason, some of the elastic they use seems to squeeze harder, IYSWIM).

plus size maternity above a size 20

Chuffed · 22/10/2004 09:45

I second the idea of having really stretchy tops that aren't too clingy and sort of longish.
I found a couple while in the US and they stretched enough to cover me at 8mth pregnant but were perfect for after birth when you want something fitted but not tight and with a little extra length to cover up the bloating. They were basically normal funky fitted long sleeved t's extra long and extra stretchy.

popsycal · 22/10/2004 09:47

winter coat!!

artyjoe · 22/10/2004 10:04

Plus size clothes above a 20!

Knickers that don't cut off the blood where they are not high leg!

Funky winter coat.

bonym · 22/10/2004 14:20

sexy bras!!

Riti · 22/10/2004 16:34

Thanks Guys this helps I would love some more feedback too. It seems like winter coat and pants are a big problem. I will start on these thisngs from now on. How much would you like to pay for it?
I made some formal tops(long)for myself when I was pregnant to wear to Christmas parties. What about those?

Riti, if you take a look at this . They do fabulous clothes a bit pricey but beautiful fit. The wrap top with the sleeves and the bandeau wrap top is fabulous....more stuff like this would be nice.....decent jeans and winter coats would be great too....but the price has to be reasonable

Frizbe · 22/10/2004 20:49

agree with trousers for long legs, a lot of the maternity ranges are for people with upto 30 inc legs and there are a lot of us with longer ones!

Enid · 22/10/2004 21:21

I used to work for a large maternity clothes company and I can tell you that women do NOT wear maternity clothes for a second longer than they have to - as soon as baby's out, they can't bear to wear them. Generalisation obviously but I must say I couldn't wait to lend out my clothes even though couldn't fit into 'normal' sized clothes for a while.

ernest · 27/10/2004 08:53

i don't find tops a problem anyway, but bottoms - skirts and trousers are a real headache. I find my normal stuff it too tight really early on, before I've got a bump. and post natal, obviously can't get into any 'normal' clother, BUT at these times (early pg & post natal) have no bump so can't wear maternity stuff. So what do people do, other than tracksuit bottoms during these awkward early & ater stages, as I'm looking to get pg again & am only just fitting into my pre preg clothes & am about to start it all over again! Can't face another cycle of having nothing to wear.

that link looks good, dmf, have you got the trousers? Do you think they could be worn early pg or post natal? Are they long in the leg?

riti, if you could get a pair of trousers for a 5'2" that I could wear early preg, heavy preg & post natal I'd buy 10 pairs I reckon.

teabelly · 27/10/2004 14:30

I think there's more around now than ever before, esp with places like H&M and Topshop joining the bandwagon (actually always wondered why it was only DP/Next that had fashion maternity - lots of fashion concious bumps out there!). But for me the big thing has always been cost cost cost. Like Enid says most of us don't want to wear maternity clothes longer than necessary - there's something so wonderful about being able to get back into your old clothes again . So a clothes range at a reasonable price would go down very well - afterall you don't want to have to spend £400 for a wardrobe that'll last about 6 months.

Have to agree with the coat thing though - when I was pg with ds I had to steal dh's leather jacket as mine was too fitted .

... sorry still here...also agree with the early pregnancy clothes complaint, I'm 9 weeks into my 2nd pg and I only have about 3 things that are still comfortable, but my old maternity clothes are too big still, so maybe a first trimester range (that you could also use for immediately after the birth) - just a few trousers/skirts would be nice too...ok going now

hana · 27/10/2004 14:39

no no no!! I don't want to wear my big clothes post pregnancy! It would just remind me of how big I was and maybe deter me from losing weight!
