Nervous with no 3, can I request a rough date for 12 week scan?

Hi everyone,
Im only 5 weeks along so havent even had my booking appointment yet as my GP said to call in 2 more weeks to see the midwife.
Im really nervous this time that something isn't right, despite 2 healthy pregnancies before but my weight has gone crazy this year due to stress and with 2nd lockdown I'm worried I'm getting too stressed again and everything will go wrong.
I've figured out I'll be 12 weeks on Christmas, would a midwife be able to try and get my scan in this side of Christmas? My hospital has been changing rules on scans and birth etc semi frequently so would like my SO to be there, but also for reassurance for myself and not having Christmas ruined worh not knowing everythings ok.
I know it would depend on if I get a nice midwife and also if the hospital has availability but has anyone had success in asking for a certain date for a scan?

Could you book a private scan for about 10 weeks? By that point you will be able to get a very good view and know it's growing as it should be and that our chances of miscarriage will go way down. That way you can have that a few weeks before Christmas to give yourself time to process whatever it says,

Definitely not on the NHS. At the best of times, I don't think you can ask for a certain date for a scan. I'm so sorry if I sound heartless. I don't mean to. But speaking totally pragmatically and from experience, if I were in your shoes, I'd pay for a private scan.
When I was 39 (this is almost 10 years ago, so no covid excuses), my 12 week scan got booked in at 14 + 6, too late to have a decent nuchal translucency reading. That scan got cancelled and I got booked back in at around 15 + weeks. It was a high risk pregnancy with an unhappy outcome (NOT that this will happen to you in the least. What happened to me was very, very rare, even for a 39 year old). My point is, if you really want a reassuring scan and don't want to risk being postponed or messed about- especially now when everything is up in the air thanks to covid- go private for this scan (you can keep the NHS 12 week scan anyway, but at least you'll have the reasurance of a timely scan if you go private).
Best of luck and congratulations to you on number 3! Flowers

It won’t depend on whether you have a nice midwife. It will depend purely on the capacity of the scan department. Their policy will almost certainly be not to accommodate requests for certain dates unless there is a clinical need.

You have three choices;
-Have the scan as arranged by the hospital which may be any time between 11 and 13+6 weeks.
-Arrange a private scan in addition to the nhs scan.
-Be dishonest.

Sorry I cannot imagine you can request a specific date for your 12 week scan. You can tell your midwife at booking in yout anxieties, but to be honest you are better off booking a private scan.

They will not want to scan you any earlier than 12 weeks as if they do, then they need to bring you back again once 12 weeks is passed. My scan was at 11 weeks and they were a bit disgruntled that they had to bring me back again- to them it's a wasted slot, as they need measurements at 12 weeks. So if your 12 weeks is bang on xmas, I suspect they will give you an appt after xmas. You may therefore want to book a private reassurance scan
