I had to accept defeat yesterday and put my jeans and cargo pants to the back of the wardrobe and bring out the maternity gear (i'm 22 weeks pregnant with no. 2).

I'm not a big fan of really baggy maternity tops so I'd rather buy normal jumpers/tops just in a slightly bigger size and let them snuggle over the hideous 'sack' that my old maternity jeans etc all have. All the tops in my current wardrobe are too short and dont cover enough of the sack and as it's a different material to the rest of the jeans/trousers it looks really silly.

So, have anyone found any nice trendy jumpers/tops that are long enough to cover the bump but without costing a fortune as they'll get stretched so much they will need binning after the birth?

Londonmummy - Postage was (I think) about $5 (£3??) - they will combine postage if you buy more than one item. The sizes are pretty spot-on - I ordered medium and am a uk size 12 (sometimes a 14 in the bust)

Mckenzie - Received my dress from Avenue des Bebes yesterday and tried on last night (this means it took 3 working days to get to me so not bad !).

I would say that the quality is about what you'd expect - similar to Blooming Marvellous, maybe a bit better. It is also 'different' - i.e. had nice detail like the sleeves were flared (not sure this is a great explanation) and at least wasn't just plain black like most maternity dresses out there at the moment.

My main problem with it is that it is a maternity dress and I am having a sulk that I can't go and buy whatever I like as I would have done for my brother's wedding !! My only consolation is that when my other brother got married about 9 yrs ago I had to wear a pink meringey bridesmaids dress so it has got to be better than that !!

One tip I would give is to make sure you look at all the details you can if you like an item as they have quite good zoom on it so you can see the detail - what I thought was a black and white dress has pink detail on it which I could have found out if I'd look properly !!

Also, at the moment they are doing free delivery within the EU which makes the things a bit cheaper (quite a lot cheaper actually) so might be worth it whilst this goes on (it started the day after I ordered mine - typical !)

Thats it - hope it helps !

Dorothy Perkins has been my life saver. At 33 weeks I had to bite the bullet and get 'proper' maternity clothes as the bigger sizes were just not covering my beach ball any more (and even bigger size looked silly at the shoulders & bust). I got 5 tops out of DPs maternity range in the sale, in total cost me £20!! I just wear my normal tops/jumpers etc over the vest top - meaning I don't need to worry about looking down and seeing either flesh or the stretchy bit of my jeans!

My top tip is now to get over the bump trousers. I went the trendy route and got under bump everything, and they are just not as comfy or flattering as the scary BIG tummy ones (and don't have as nice a line).

Good luck shopping!

Thanks for the latest messages. Bu coincidence, I went to Bluewater today and had a very very successful shopping trip.
I got a dressy top, skirt and pair of trousers from Cache Cache for my christmas parties etc and then about 5 tops from H&M and a great denim skirt and another party top from Top Shop's new maternity range and finished off at a local shop recomended by a friend and got a great poncho and jumper.
The 3 bits in Cache Cache cost more than the other 9 bits put together but I dont think that I'll regret the extra cost (I certainly hope not).
