Birth playlists

Just wondering if anyone has found any good birth playlists of relaxation music? I want to have a few different things on my phone ready to go during labour...

Or do people plan to listen to the radio/not have music? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m making my own playlist using Spotify.

EmilySpinach · 08/11/2020 12:29

I’d recommend making your own. I had two lovingly curated playlists - one gentle and relaxing, one a bit more upbeat for the pushing stage. In the end DD was born to the sound of Magic FM in theatre!

I had one the first time on Spotify that I made myself. I was in labour for 2 days though so it quickly got old 🤣 I didn't bother the second time.

avidteadrinker · 08/11/2020 12:45

I made one of happy tunes that I love. I probably should have made it longer as I must have listened to it a million times during labour! but now when I hear certain tunes from it it takes me straight back!

I was thinking maybe spa like music but not sure if that would get annoying after a while?! 🙈

That would have sent me absolutely demented but everyone's different!

Just choose the stuff that you would normally find relaxing rather than anything that you think you are supposed to find relaxing. You're still you even in labour.

If you’re thinking spa music perhaps search out some guided meditations / deep breathing relaxation / or singing bowls / classical piano music ?

gothicsprout · 08/11/2020 14:34

Spotify has several of the Lush Spa treatment soundtracks which are nice - I used them as music for hypnobirthing practice and during DC2 labour.

Twizbe · 08/11/2020 14:45

I listened to The Greatest Showman sound track

Dyra · 08/11/2020 16:26

I made my own playlist of songs that I could sing along to on the theory that it could serve as a little bit of a distraction. Upbeat, pop stuff for the most part.

I agree with PP. Go for stuff you enjoy over what the internet says you should use in labour. Spa music, hypnobirthing, whale song, Enya, would just drive me up the wall and have the opposite intended effect.

If you haven't already, try Spotify. Wi-fi in hospital usually isn't too bad. Good enough to handle music anyway.

SanFrancisco49er · 08/11/2020 21:20

I'm due Mid Dec so I'll have Christmas music and carols. I absolutely love anything chrismassy and can listen to xmas music non stop and it still makes me happy! (Years of working in retail have proved this to be true :))
I would just choose what you like and usually listen to. If you have spotify you can decide on the day anyway?

MalorieSnooty · 08/11/2020 21:32

I needed complete silence, music was a total distraction (and I'm a musician!). Labour is easier and less painful if you can fully focus on how the contractions are working. Second time around I was only pushing for five minutes, anyway.

Stargazer87 · 08/11/2020 22:34

Have you found generally good wifi in hospital then? My experience of it has always been rubbish! That's why I didn't think I'd be able to use Spotify?

I made two playlists one with calming music the other with more upbeat music. I didn't get chance to listen to either. I arrived at the hospital with just enough time to start pushing. The process of putting the playlists together helped me feel like I was doing something productive and satisfied my need to plan in my final few weeks.

Superscientist · 08/11/2020 22:41

The WiFi in my room on the ward afterwards was pretty good. My intention was to sign up for a free trial of Spotify so I could use download the playlists but baby came early so I hadn't done that yet

I have Spotify premium- you can download your playlists to listen to offline.

I’m going to make a few different lists, one spa type background plinky plunky music but as others have said if it’s a long time this may drive me mad! So also one with music I like. When I had DD six years ago I remember listening to the latest Damon Albarn album. I’ve just looked it up, the album is called Everyday Roots and was released 25th April 2014, DD was born 3rd May 2014! So must’ve been very new and not like I particularly knew any of the tracks!

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 08/11/2020 22:46

I also needed silence during my labours. I got very irritable if anyone talked to me and at one stage told the midwives to shut up. I found that I "went into myself" to deal with the intensity of it all, and to keep focused. The thought of listening to Christmas carols 😱😱
