Would love to hear of any women that have had their babies at Princess Royal University hospital in Orpington and how the experience was

Close family member did at the height of lockdown and said they were very good (previous baby was a bad experience at Queen Mary’s).

Yes I had both my DC at the PRUH. Induced both times. First time in 2017 they were ok, second time emergency C Section and they were amazing.
Both times the post natal ward was awful. But I think that’s the case in most hospitals sadly 😫

It was awful. Why do you ask op?

ashley010 · 07/11/2020 19:50

@LilacSloth I am due to give birth there in the next few months, may I ask why it was awful?

Yes! And will again next year all being well. Are you planning on oasis? Everyone was super lovely up until post natal - red hot ward and staff were rude. May have been an off day! Overall though great until then! X

I did! Great experience on the labour ward - had preeclampsia so wasn’t able to go to the Oasis as planned. We asked (and were ready to pay) for an amenity room and so postnatal was really good too. In the end they didn’t charge us.

I did, it was a while ago now but a positive experience. Best of luck

Started induction on Tuesday morning. Baby arrived by emergency c-section in the early hours of Saturday. Both of us ended up with nasty infections and on antibiotics. Baby needed a lumbar puncture on Sunday evening. Thankfully, all was okay. Got discharged on Tuesday (in hospital a full week). Induction ward was awful. Post natal ward was awful. Impossible to sleep on either. C-section team were wonderful - it was the calmest part of the whole process. The midwives that were giving 1:1 care were also very nice and the anaesthetist that gave the epidural was fantastic. Staff on wards were very busy - some were okay, some treated the women on the ward like they were an inconvenience. All of this was during a heatwave which definitely didn't help.

I'm sure for my bad experience there are plenty of women who had a good experience at the PRUH. Everyone is different. Every labour/delivery is different.

Just to add, I would happily have paid for a private room but none were available - so don't bank on that being an option. Good luck with everything.

I was going to create a thread with the same question but found this one.

I had an awful post natal ward experience at Princess Royal in Bromley in 2018. Of course some midwives, support workers and doctors were lovely but there were a couple bad apples (midwife and student midwife) who treated me with disgust and indifference.

I'm due to give birth there again in March.

Now I'm curious how the care has been during Covid? Do they make you wear a mask during labour for example? I find my face gets hot with a mask when I try deep breathing and I'm worried this will make the painful experience even worse!

I did and had a great experience. Couldn’t use the oasis as planned due to rise in blood pressure but went straight to my delivery room. Midwife was fantastic and stayed with me the whole time. She even gave me a back massage! I ended up going to theatre and even though my midwife had finished her shift she came with me to hold my hand for the epidural because she knew how much I didn’t want one! Post natal ward was fine for me but I was lucky as I was the only one in! Slept like a baby all night and in the morning the midwife stayed with my daughter whilst I showered before my DH arrived.

I haven't but am due to have an elective c section there in April. My previous birth was at Kings and I had a terrible experience there. I have had to some time in MAU at the PRUH in Nov and Dec and found all the staff absolutely amazing.

The PRUH are running online sessions on labour which should cover the covid restrictions/any new processes. You can find info on Eventbrite if you search for PRUH antental. They said to sign up to one near your birth date to get the most recent info on covid policies.

When was your baby born mylittlebean2019? That's great you had a positive experience. Did you get admitted to labour ward? Cause that's where it all went downhill for me. Good luck for your Csection KinderWild x
