Early pregnancy and all day sickness

I knew what I had signed up for when TTC however I did not realise how sick I would be.

Currently 5+4 and if I'm not feeling sick, I'm being sick and it's all day and all night. I feel like I'm constantly on a boat just waiting for my next head down the toilet trip. I have no energy, I can barely do basic housework without needing to lie down.

I didn't think it would hit this early and nothing seems to help. Has anybody experienced similar? What did you find that helped?

Nothing to help but I'm 5+4 to and I'm the exact same I was up the majority of the night being sick and all morning!

It's rubbish ain't it but it's also a good sign! ❤️

@Mylasmummy2102 that's the only thing that makes me feel better, is knowing that this is a good sign but bloody hell it's hard isn't it. When I first found out I was rejoicing at the thought of not having a hangover for a long time but I feel like I'm hungover x1000 every second

@Babyjuly2021

Yes! I've had a bit of spotting today but still being sick so midwife says it's a good thing. I ended up in hospital with my 2nd because of sickness so I knew I would get it bad again. So hard isn't it! X

To offer a tad of hope. I was awful with first child but only for first 12 weeks then absolutely fine and loads of energy. Nothing at all with next 2 DC.

If you can stomach them, I’m finding ice lollies an absolute god send for helping with the nausea.

I’ll probably have no teeth by then end of this pregnancy but I’ll worry about that then 😂😂😂

Babyjuly2021 · 07/11/2020 13:41

@Illy603 they are usually what get me through a savage hangover so I'm not even sure why I've not considered these before. Thank you! Currently been surviving off supernoodles with grated cheese mixed in, I will crave it and think about them for hours, finally get the energy together to stand over the hob and in the 4 minutes it's taken me to make them, I'm sick and I don't want them anymore.

@areallthenamesusedup I hope I'm the same!

I’m the same, although nausea not sickness for me, completely bedbound with it. I’ve been prescribed some anti sickness tablets - cyclizine. They aren’t actually working but it’s worth a try if your sickness gets really bad because they must work for some people!

I can totally empathise. I am now 17 weeks pregnant and have only recently seen an improvement in the god awful nausea and sickness that hit me around week 5. I ended up in hospital at about 6/7 weeks, unable to keep fluids down and on an IV drip and a cocktail of meds. I've recently weaned myself off most of the meds but it's been a rocky ride and I'm not fully nausea free now, it's just more occasional and less debilitating than it was.

In terms of what helped, very bland things like dry crackers, plain crisps, plain potato, rice with nothing on it... etc. But when I couldn't even stomach food I sipped Pepsi max very slowly and seemed at times to work and take the edge off. Also lots of rest - listen to your body and sleep when you can!

Hope it gets better for you soon Thanks

Get your other half to do all cooking, you can also call your doctor if you're struggling to function, I got prescribed some anti nausea medication. Eat little and often as even being a tiny bit hungry made me worse. It will more than likely go away in a few weeks, weeks 7-12 were the worst for me, currently 20 weeks and feeling so much better. Take each day at a time. Also, nap! Being tired made me sick too. Congratulations on your pregnancy mama! X

@Anniemabel

Cyclizine is a first line treatment - they prescribe it before they try anything else as it's the cheapest option. There are others out there that work for people where cyclizine is ineffective - I found cyclizine alone did nothing but in combination with other meds (prochlorperazine and ondanestron), it was more effective. Always worth going back to GP if the first prescription isn't working as they have other options- they're just often reluctant to offer them up or prescribe them. I did my own research into meds and then I specifically asked my GP for that one (ondanestron). Hope you feel better soon
