Im completely lost as to what travel system to get. Does anyone have any advice? I walk everywhere so will need to be durable and long lasting. I have a good budget just want to know what everyone else is going for.

OP posts:

If you walk everywhere isn't the pram more important than a travel system?

Oneandabean · 07/11/2020 12:41

I have a cosatto giggle quad. Obviously haven’t had chance to use it yet but it seems a really good pram. I didn’t buy the car seat as it’s not good for babies to be in them for very long so bought a seat that will stay in the car but you can buy one that fits. The designs are gorgeous too. I’ve got hare woods

Isn’t a pram part of a travel system?
peachypetite · 07/11/2020 13:38

A travel system has a car seat that attaches to the top of the pram. If OP walks everywhere she doesn’t necessarily need one.

SunnySideUp2020 · 07/11/2020 14:09

I have been researching and i think we are going to get the cybex priam complete travel system. We tried a few in shop and it was our favourite.

To me a travel system is the chassis and the carry cot unit and pushchair unit that both fit the same chassis, and then often (but not always) the car seat can come as part of the bundle too which also fits on the chassis.

OP, I’ve got the Silver Cross Wayfarer. It’s more “urban” than “all-terrain” though, so if you do a lot of rural walking with it you might want something with bigger wheels.

whoareyouIwonder · 07/11/2020 14:58

Would highly recommend a bugaboo fox2 or bugaboo donkey3

All terrain and most car seats attach

DS is 2.5 and still looks like he has at least another 2 years worth of space in the main seat

Lots of friends bought the silver cross ones and constantly moaned how rubbish they were on uneven ground

DontFadeAway · 07/11/2020 15:45

We're looking at the Bugaboo Fox 2 or the Joolz Day + but because of COVID are yet to go and try any out! Can't wait until lockdown ends and we can go for test drives!x

MaverickDanger · 07/11/2020 15:51

We’ve gone for the Joolz Day+ - mainly as we are both tall & needed something that we could push comfortably and didn’t feel like we were stooping to pick up from the carry cot bit.

If you’re tall, I would definitely recommend. We really struggled to find anything that felt as comfortable for us.

CupcakesK · 07/11/2020 16:00

No specific recommendations, but a few points for you to consider:

  • 3 (big) wheels are better for all terrain
  • my LO hated (cried the whole time) lying flat in the pram and I know many others who had the same. IMO, not worth spending a huge amount of money on as you may end up using a sling more.
  • make sure you try some out as hard to tell otherwise how heavy it will be and how easy to fold up etc
Irre247 · 07/11/2020 16:15

I have a cybex balios s and I love it. Baby is 1 and we use is all the time. We have walked miles and miles with it and it’s as good as the day we got it (apart from the scratches which I could cry about but!!). It was great when she was tiny and in the pram part, great when she was facing us and great now she’s facing out (she’s so nosy! I wanted her facing us for longer but she was grumpy).

The centre of gravity changes when you move them into the big seat and rear to forward but you soon get used to it. It pushes like a dream, two or one handed.

It’s great for more rural walks or roadside walking. Easy enough to clip the car seat into when they are small and you need to nip in Tesco, but does need adapters but I just kept them in the boot. It fits in the car, it is a bit big but it fits. It’s reasonably priced for a travel system (£600ish for pram, carrycot, car seat, adapters, rain covers). It’s got a big hood, 3 decline positions, good brakes. The fold takes a bit of getting used to but once you know you know. Basket is good. I just love it!

barbiemummy20 · 07/11/2020 16:17

@Irre247 we have just ordered cybex balios, so good to read your review! We managed to get it in mamas and papas Black Friday event in a package so delighted 💕

StayCloseSpooky · 07/11/2020 16:30

We had a cossato giggle with DS 4 years ago, now we're using for DD so it's really stood the test of time. It is a bit battered now but I really rate cossato for quality and durability.

yarrow89 · 07/11/2020 20:41

We did a 2 hour session with an advisor from John Lewis just before lockdown and they showed us a bunch of prams/buggies based on what we were looking for. Obviously it's closed for lockdown but when it reopens I would definitely recommend it! There was no pressure on us whatsoever to buy anything and they send you a list of everything you viewed during the day so you can go online and check out reviews. It was really helpful to see things in real life, how they move, weight and how they fold/open, sometimes it can be quite different to youtube videos onlines. If you have time, I would say wait and try them out in person.

yarrow89 · 07/11/2020 20:41

The John Lewis thing is called Nursery Advice Services: www.johnlewis.com/our-services/nursery-advice

Irre247 · 07/11/2020 20:52

@barbiemummy20 I hope you love it, do practise the fold before you go out solo though :D What colour have you gone for?

LilacSloth · 07/11/2020 21:17

We have a cosatto wow. Have used it most days for the past couple of years - really happy with it.

Fisher1008 · 07/11/2020 21:32

We’ve gone for the Bugaboo Fox2 seems really nice, but is definitely on the pricer side of prams

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 08/11/2020 07:43

If you walk everywhere I wouldn’t bother with a travel system as it limits your choice of car seat. I would just get a really good car seat separately and a nice pram. I wish I hadn’t bothered with one both times as never ever used the clips or the function!

barbiemummy20 · 08/11/2020 09:28

@Irre247 we went for the navy blue the deal in mamas and papa's was brill 👌🏻yeh had a wee footer with it in store 😂

HK92 · 08/11/2020 09:44

I live by the sea and next door to a huge country park so wanted something all terrain too. I would highly recommend uppababy. The prams have great wheels for all terrain, great suspension and the basket is HUGE. They are pricey though, but worth it I think!

Terriblecreature · 08/11/2020 09:52

I got the bugaboo fox for my 1st little boy. Absolutely loved it, glided wasn't heavy and easy to use. The bassinet is also very generous in size and I had moved my little boy to the bigger seat before he even outgrew the bassinet (he wasn't small either) however, after a year I decided I wanted something more compact for the car so I got a babyzen yoyo - it is a pricey buggy but I absolutely love it. I now have another little boy on the way and my bugaboo is like brand new but I am toying with the idea of selling this and buying the bassinet attachment for the yoyo as it is just so easy and compact. I can't complain about either though in all honesty x

Whatthedoodle · 08/11/2020 10:21

I have the bugaboo donkey3 due to a small age gap between my last baby and the one on the way. I’ve been using it for DS and it’s brilliant. The big wheels make walking everywhere so easy. Also, getting up and down curbs is a breeze as it tilts back so easily because of the big wheels at the back. I know the bugaboo fox is quite similar so I would recommend. I’ve always thought they were quite expensive but after having one they’re well worth the money.

I walk lots and try to travel most places on foot but as I drive it was important for me to have a travel system, especially if you need to save room in the car by popping the car seat on the chassis (shopping etc). With my last baby I bought a cheap travel system and rarely used the car seat part on the pram I preferred the carrycot/seat. For me adding an extra child to the car means I’m likely to need to free up some space sometimes which is why I wanted the option to just pop the car seat on so as PPs have said you may not need a travel system it just depends on your needs.

IamC · 08/11/2020 11:06

We did our research and went to a store to take a look at the system we were sure we wanted. It was so well reviewed, had won awards etc.

We got there and it looked and felt cheap, wasn't the quality we were expecting.

However we took the opportunity to look around and settled on the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 - it's excellent value for the quality. So light and easy to use.

We didn't buy it there and then, as we were waiting for Black Friday month. But ordered it yesterday with £160 off. Win!

I think the moral to those ramblings is - if you can possibly wait until lockdown is over so you can try the travel system for yourself - do. We were convinced on another system based on lots of research. But In reality it didn't live up to expectations. But by trying several out in real life we found one that was perfect for us. And what's perfect for me might not be perfect for you.

sofiathe2nd · 08/11/2020 11:08

We have an uppababy vista and love it, basket is huge and it comes with carrycot/seat/raincovers etc. It’s not the most robust thing on really rough ground though
