Whooping cough vaccine - worried about baby's movements and wellbeing

Hello ladies,
I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and soon need to do the whooping cough vaccine. I've watched a YouTube video of a poor little baby with it, horrendous! So I will get it done, but I'm just concerned of any potential side effects, especially on the baby. In particular, for those who've done it, was there any changes in the movement patterns of baby? Did you have to take time off afterwards due to feeling unwell? Any side effects at all? In fact this is my 2nd pregnancy, first one happened some time ago, and I don't recall doing it and everything was fine.
Comments appreciated!

I had absolutely no side effects at all. I know some people have a sore arm but it's minor.

Whooping cough is horrific. It's something you really must prevent if you can.

I had mine at 20 weeks. The nurse said if you ate worried about baby movements, get checked Smile

BendingSpoons · 07/11/2020 08:24

No problems at all. Definitely worth getting and not a problem for baby. As PP said, any change in movements should be considered separately and checked out.

LolaLollypop · 07/11/2020 08:25

Also no side effects. As the nurse said to me, a baby with whooping cough is much more at risk than a side effect from the jab (the majority of which are very minor).
Especially in the current circumstances, get all the vaccinations you can.

No side effects at all

My arm hurt for a few days but I'll take that over my baby having whooping cough any day of the year.

Hi! I know you're looking for honest answers so I'll give you mine! I had it at 28 weeks and I did have a bad reaction. Lots of swelling and bruising and I also felt poorly for days, like flu. However, I'm so glad I had it and protected my baby. I didn't feel great at the time but felt fine after a week and now I'm 34 weeks and I'm so so glad I've done it. The thought of not doing it and not protecting my baby is worse than the side effects and I'd do it again tomorrow if I had to. Baby was absolutely fine throughout, kicking away the whole time. It's just our immune systems reacting to something new. Most people get no reaction at all! Smile

I had it in my last pregnancy. No issues at all. Will have it again this time too.

I had whooping cough when I was about 7 - bloody terrifying. I just remember waking up in the night not being able to breathe. I can’t imagine a tiny baby going through that.

ChocoholicMama · 07/11/2020 14:10

Sore upper arm for a good three or four days but absolutely no other side effects. Flowers

alphabetti · 07/11/2020 15:01

I had the whooping cough vaccination at 28weeks I was actually on annual leave and glad I was as my arm was throbbing for days - couldn’t touch it or sleep on it. Saying that I’d rather have a sore arm for few days than an ill baby where I could have prevented it.

Sixpencefaux · 07/11/2020 15:17

I had it yesterday and I am in a lot of pain. Sore arm, headaches and body aches.

pronxcessxo · 07/11/2020 16:16

whooping cough had absolutely no reaction or even soreness, flu jab had a bright purple sore arm for a week but didn't feel ill other than that Smile it varies loads i guess

tinatree · 07/11/2020 16:18

I had a sore arm.
As other pp have said call your midwife if you ever have reduced movements

2020N · 08/11/2020 16:29

@CreamyCoffee I had an achy arm for a day or two, and avoided lying down/leaning on the injection site for a few days, but other than that, no changes or side effects x

Hathats · 09/11/2020 08:43

I had whooping cough when I was 27, it was horrendous. It lasts for 3 months, you spend most of your time coughing until your sick.

110APiccadilly · 09/11/2020 09:15

I had mine at about 16 weeks so couldn't feel baby moving at that point anyway. No side effects at all.

Poppyismyfavourite · 09/11/2020 17:41

If I poked it my arm hurt for a couple of days, but that was all!

SpeccyLime · 09/11/2020 17:57

Mine had absolutely no effect on the baby. I wasn’t even feeling movement then anyway (16 weeks and I have an anterior placenta).

My only symptom was a slightly sore / itchy arm at the site of the jab.

Honestly it’s a bit of a non-event!
