Hi

I’m 7 weeks and I have just carried a mop and bucket full of water up and down my stairs to mop the bathroom floors, my stomach does feel quite sore after it but it made me think what can you actually carry in pregnancy. I’m not one for sitting around and getting other to do things for me so I’ll struggle if it comes to that. But have I just put myself at risk by doing that, little bit worried.

You can pretty much carry on as normal until you physically can't carry things.

You won't of done any damage to your baby so don't worry

I carry my toddler around all the time and he weighs about 15kg. You'll be fine

Whatthedoodle · 06/11/2020 12:32

I wouldn’t worry! A lot of mums having 2nd 3rd and so on pregnancies have to carry heavy toddlers around.
Of course don’t lift anything that’s something you wouldn’t be able to handle. And as baby gets bigger and puts pressure on your spine be careful lifting too much so you don’t cause any discomfort.

Thanks for putting mined at rest, with it being no1 everything is new to me. But I never even though about all those mums that have to get on with their toddlers Smile thank you

Yeah that will be fine.

Funny I thought the same this morning. 33 weeks and carrying screaming and kicking Dd. Age two. Thought to myself would I have lifted this weight when pregnant with her, probably not. But I need to get her into the bloody car.

Almost 38 weeks with number 2 and I regularly have to cart my 2 stone toddler around. Around 20 weeks in the summer I was helping dh lift concrete fence posts. I lift what I can and know not to, when I can’t.

I'm 7 weeks too and have been doing CrossFit (until it had to close!) which involves Olympic weightlifting, so much heavier than a mop and bucket!!

It's a myth that pregnant women shouldn't do anything and in fact exercise during pregnancy can prepare you better for birth and all the bending over and lifting that's needed after baby arrives! If you're interested, there's an episode on it, on the Birth-ed podcast thats super interesting.

Best of luck with your pregancy OP :)

I was having to carry my 3 and a half year old at 7 weeks pregnant so I'm thinking carrying most things is ok 😂😂

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 06/11/2020 13:15

At about 10 weeks pregnant with DD2, my DD fell down the stairs in a restaurant. I picked her up and carried her down the next flight of stairs and back to the table. She was 6 and she’s tall for her age. DD2 is now 6wo and sleeping happily on me.

I bet your bucket of water weighed less than my DD so try not to worry.

Babyontheway21 · 06/11/2020 13:37

Yeah I did think it was a crazy question but I had to ask lol. Thanks everyone.

@Babyontheway21 ask away, that's what the forum is for and trust me we've all had those moments in a pregnancy where we think "is that safe?/ok/normal?" X

Babyontheway21 · 06/11/2020 14:20

Thank you Smile

The only reason pregnant women are warned about lifting is that the hormones can make your ligaments loosen, making it more likely you would strain something if you lifted something really heavy. Lifting isn't a risk to the baby.
