Fallen down flight of stairs

I’ve managed to fall down down a flight of stairs - been to a&e but apparently they can’t order scans and I was too upset to insist on anything.

Has anyone managed to keep baby ok after something like this? I’m 8weeks...

I definitely get how scary this is, but baby is very well protected at 8 weeks. Your womb is still tucked down low at this point. Do keep an eye out for any bleeding but you're so early on that chances are baby will be fine Thanks

NC4Now · 04/11/2020 23:57

How badly did you fall? Babies are well cushioned in there, so of course look out for bleeding or any other signs, but try not to panic.
I went arse first down our cellar stairs in my third trimester. I had some pretty spectacular bruises but baby was fine.

WeavingWandering · 05/11/2020 00:10

@NC4Now- it was about fourteen steps but as soon as I realised I was going- I sort of let myself go flat so it was like a bouncy slide? My bum is pretty sore and the back of my arms.... under normal circumstances I would probably have thought it was funny but not at the moment :(

I’m really hoping baby is tucked in safe . I’m going to see if the midwife can order a scan - and if not I think I’ll have to go private .

You’ll be totally fine. I fell off my bike at 18 wks - kneed myself in the bump and smacked my head off the pavement breaking my helmet. Baby is now 2 and watching CBeebies! At 8 wks the uterus is still fully protected below your pelvic brim. This won’t have done any damage.

I fell down a hill at 8 months many years ago. DS was perfectly well.

I can imagine how scary it is but at 8 weeks they’re so tiny and well cushioned that if you’re not injured then it’s very unlikely they’ll be effected

I've done this before and I also had my 30kg dog put his foot on my belly (I was a lot further on then) to launch himself off the sofa I was resting on - both occasions with the same baby and he's fine.

WeavingWandering · 05/11/2020 10:11

@user1493413286- I had a cup of tea and a laptop that both stayed intact somehow. Hopefully that’s a good sign

@WeavingWandering I fell going up a flight of stairs when I was around 7 months. I clearly didn't account for the shift in balance with a large bump. Ended up in the day ward for monitoring, an anti-d injection and DS is just fine.

Got a scan booked for tomorrow morning ... hoping for the best but being prepared for the awful

I fainted and fell down my stairs in my first pregnancy at 14 weeks. My midwife told me if I wasn’t in any pain it would be fine cause even at that point baby is well cushioned. I was in pain but wasn’t sure if it was pain from falling or if something had happened to my tummy because I just couldn’t pin point where it was coming from so I went into EPAU to get checked out. All was fine and they reassured me even at 14 weeks baby is still well cushioned.

Hope you’re reassured after your scan!

WeavingWandering · 05/11/2020 15:43

@Whatthedoodle- that’s the hard part knowing if it’s worrying baby pain, normal stretchy/crampy, or your standard falling down the stairs pain!

Also- got to a&e last night and the bed was literally COATED in dandruff. Even the doctor was pretty squeamish over it ... and they kept asked me if I were feeling nauseous... like I’m lying in a skin blizzard 🤢 of course I’m nauseous!

HadEnoughOfBears · 05/11/2020 15:53

Someone else's dandruff?? And they expected you to lie in jt?? What??

Also, hope everything goes OK with your scan, I had a couple of falls during pregnancies due to dizziness and the babies were fine.
(now they're teenagers they're not so fine but I don't think it's fall related!)

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 05/11/2020 15:59

I slipped in the mid and fell when I was carrying (one end of) a gate (yes a big bloody wooden gate) when I was about 12 weeks and it landed on me. We were both fine.

WeavingWandering · 05/11/2020 19:39

@HadEnoughOfBears- he tried really hard to wipe it off with anti-bac wipes ... and when that failed, got some paper to over the bed. So in fairness, I wasn’t actually lying directly on it...but still 😶

I fell down the stairs badly three times during my pregnancy with DS2. He's 6ft, 20yrs old and in med school now 😂

linerforlife · 05/11/2020 21:03

I fell down a flight of stairs, well fell and then slid down the rest hard on my back and bum, at about 10 weeks pregnant. DD absolutely fine and now 5 months old, sleeping soundly in her crib next to me right now Smile I'm sure everything will be fine, and I hope everything goes well with the rest of the our pregnancy.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 06/11/2020 08:00

How are you feeling today OP?

WeavingWandering · 06/11/2020 10:48

Ultrasound showed a happily beating heart which was a massive relief.

Still a bit sore and delicate but now I’ve seen baby, I’m hoping it’s just the fact that I bounced down a flight of stairs!

Don't worry- it would be like trying to shake a pea out of a jam sandwich.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 06/11/2020 11:50

😂. I think mum needs to have a day with her feet up, nice cup of herbal tea and a large bar of chocolate perhaps?

WeavingWandering · 06/11/2020 11:58

I’m about 80% chocolate at the moment - it’s wonderful!

That’s great news! You’re bound to be a bit sore but it’s good to hear your baby is doing fine. I always worried about falls because I was born two weeks early when my mum slipped on an icy path. I was probably ready anyway though, and managed to swerve being born on Christmas Day!
