Possible covid and pregnancy

What happens if you contract covid in pregnancy? I've had a look online but there's not a lot of info out there about covid and pregnancy.

I'm 31 weeks and yesterday I dropped my 2 sons off with their dad for a few hours (part of my support bubble) obviously this requires me to be in close contact to hand the boys over and the things they need while staying there, he dropped them back off at my house a few hours later and then this morning rings me to tell me that at work last night he had to have a test done (he's a support worker) as the male he cares for has tested positive and so have 3 of his day staff. Ex says he been feeling unwell for a few hours headache, cough etc. WTF do I do if he's possibly passed it to me when it's proven it can also be passed to unborn babies. Massively panicking here 😔

What an arse! Why couldn't he have told you before you dropped them off?
Give your Gp or midwife a call and see what they say.

Oh I just see you meant he had the test after having the children!

He said this morning that he knew it was a possibility as staff have been dropping like flies with covid at his work place x

One thing I found reassuring is a friend of a friend got it but the person she lived with (same kitchen bathroom etc) didn't!

So I know that's not a complete solution but just an initial reassurance that it is harder to get than we think (all within being careful!)

If you feel really worried try online for a test or contact your midwife or GP who might be able to get you a priority one?

I tested positive for covid when I was around 33 weeks pregnant. Midwife just told me to drink lots of fluid and take paracetamol however I had little to no symptoms (only loss of smell and taste). I had a growth scan (was booked before I tested positive) which showed baby was fine after. I’m 40 weeks today so baby still isn’t here yet but the midwife reassured me that the risk to baby was low, just try to keep your temp down and fluids up and monitor for movements as usual xx

Don’t panic. I would just look at the data reported by RCOGs latest guidance as you know it’s reliable. Several large studies have shown that pregnant women are no more likely to get Covid but that if they do then being in the third trimester does make it slightly more risky. On the whole though not massively more dangerous than for non-pregnant women of the same age and outcomes are almost always positive. There is some data that the virus can be passed to the baby through the placenta in rare cases but no babies appear to have suffered ill effects and have been both healthy. I would definitely speak to your midwife if you end up symptomatic but try not to worry too much. Hopefully you’ll be fine anyway

I had coronavirus when I was 13/14 weeks pregnant and everything was fine, I was quite rough for a fortnight but baby was ok.

My son is now here and he is perfectly healthy 👍

Thank you everybody, main worry was the possibility of a premature birth, I'm consultant led for small babies and this baby is on the small side so I was panicking that he may be affected by it, glad to read the risk to him is relatively small x

If it makes you feel better, my husband got covid back in the summer (luckily mildly) and I tested negative despite us living together. We isolated from each other in the house as a precaution.
